I lost so many lilies and iris's due to killing frost this Spring and this is a welcome "surprise".

I am a new member and I am enjoying all the pics of your flowers and gardens....Rose.

My Surprise Lilies won't be blooming till around the middle of August. :) I've always liked the iridescent sheen to those blooms. :) Thanks for sharing. :)

Thank you for looking Ticker. These don't usually bloom for the second time until mid August so they really are a surprise. They didn't bloom this Spring due to the freeze we had.

I moved all of mine last fall, so hope I get to see some this year.

Moby...I had others too but this is the only one that has come back. Maybe it just wanted to really surprise me..lol!

Surprise lilies (Lycoris species, and what you have pictured) normally bloom only once a year, usually in late summer to early fall. To my knowledge, none bloom in spring, although that is when they put up foliage. You must have experienced a lucky anomaly, or you have a horticultural breakthrough !

Leftwood...I am sure you are correct. I know that I had foilage this Spring but no blooms and I thought it was due to our late freeze. I'm sure I am having a senior moment. Thanks for letting me know so I don't wait for the blooms next Spring...lol! Although I will probably forget : ) ....Rose
