Ipomoea "Blackie" eliminating green leaves

Clovis, CA(Zone 8a)

Hello,
I am hoping that someone can help me with my "Blackie" ipomoea. I have plenty of beautiful black leaves but am notiticing that most of the new foliage coming in is green, not black. I have been pinching the green ones off. Am I doing the right thing? If not, please let me know what I can do. I am wondering if the leaves will turn black as they get more mature. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

I have a green/white one that has started to send out solid green shoots, but, it is sending them out from the base of the plant, right next to where the green/white stems come up out of the ground.

If yours are at the growing tips of the black stems/leaves I would leave them and see if the turn dark. It might be that the long warm days of summer has changed its growth habit. I think I have seen 'Blackie' do that color change here in summer.

The ones I have in shade are doing that and the ones in full sun are still black.

Which? new green stems from the base or just growing new green leaves on the old stems, stems that have black leaves.

If they are just new green leaves on runners that already have developed black leaves then you are OK. They will turn dark as they mature. Plants in shade wil behave a little different than sun grown plants. And plants that are growing fast in the warmth of summer are more likely to be pale and then darken as the leaves mature.

I grow lots of coleus and the same plant can look completely different depending on how much sun it gets. Sometimes the same plant, from cuttings, will be red and green in the sun will turn almost pure green in the shade.

No Gourd. Those plants are at the nursery where I shop for plant materials for my jobs. I wish I owned that place, then I wouldn't have to work out in the hot sun every day.

Thank you so much, I will try leaving them and see what happens!!

The new green growth on "blackie" is completely normal and will darken with age.
