This LOOKS like it's in the yellow jacket family - but these are HUGE - close to 1-1/2" in length. Can anyone tell me what they are ?? I can only imagine what a sting from one of these would do to you !!! Thanks.
I see these around a flowerbed that has mulch down. I live in Central Florida.

The sting isn't supposed to be bad, as stings go... unless you're a Cicada, then it's bad news. It's a Cicada Killer Wasp, Sphecius speciosus. What a great picture! It looks like it's made of enamel or something

thank you SO much "claypa"..... I'll see about uploading a pic to the website. We were getting so many of the dirt mounds in the flower bed - I thought they were from voles or something until I saw a couple of the wasps go into them. Thank you again.
