Fuligo septica

Fuligo septica a.k.a. Dog Vomit Slime Mold... there have been a few posts with pictures and people wondering what it is... should it go in Plantfiles, BugFiles... neither?

Just wondering... it keeps coming up, no pun intended Ha

claypa,
The slime moulds are a fascinating group, but do not belong in either PlantFiles or BugFiles.
They were once, along with the fungi, placed in the plant kingdom, but are now placed in a quite separate kingdom (separate even from the fungi). They now share with the algae the Kingdom Protoctista.
We do not have a database for Protoctista (nor for Fungi) nor even for Mosses and Liverworts that are true plants.
I recently found this attractive little slime mould (Trichia verrucosa) growing on the end of a large log in Morwell National Park here in Australia:

Much more attractive than Fuligo.

That's about what I figured, thanks!
