Westminster, CO(Zone 5b)

Found this on my Parsley plant. It ate most of the follage but glad it was not on my other veggies.

It looks like a Black Swallowtail butterfly caterpillar

Yup!!! Read the description on bug files and thats what it is. I released it in my front lawn, I hope it will survive and turn into one of those pretty butterflies.

It will be more likely to survive on the parsley than the lawn, I don't think they'll eat grass

Jessme, it will die on the lawn or a bird will get it. They have to have a specific food; Parsley, Dill, Fennel, plants in the Carrot family. Can you raise it inside?

There's some great people on the butterfly forum that can help you do it....it's easy. Those cats are the easiest because if you run out of food, you can get some at the grocery store.
