CLOSED: Can someone tell me what this is??

Red Deer, Canada

It was buzzin' around me a couple days ago. Caught it........don't know if it's good or bad. I ended up letting it go again cause we have 3 year olds and I didn't want to run the risk if it stings or bites, and i didn't want to kill it.

xanophile,
Your bug looks like a Horntail (Urocerus gigas flavicornis): http://bugguide.net/node/view/91959

We have a page for it in BugFiles here: http://davesgarden.com/bf/go/2717/
but nmo pictures so far, so we would be pleased to have your picture added

Thanks! That's very interesting, actually. I've never seen this bug before and by the looks of that thing on it's butt i could have a swordfight with it. But it doesn't sting, huh?

As for the picture, yeah, by all means, use it. If it means I have to find a way to post it to that bug archive.......well that could be tricky. It took me a good while just to figure out how to post to this site! What a confusing site.

Thanks again!
