Where to buy seed envelopes?

Painesville, OH(Zone 5b)

I haven't found any locally. Where does everyone buy their little plastic seed bags? Tamara

Ballintleva, Ireland

Hi Tamara
The cheapest I found recently was from e-bay,
They are based in UK, but I don't know what price postage to US would be, Their trading name, on the uk e-bay site is "coopack" - but perhaps you would get someone in the US selling them too.

They cost £2.99 for 1,000 and I think I paid about £4 to get them delivered to me in Ireland, This still worked out at about 1/5th of the price that i usually pay locally!

Seed bags are listed in the section under "Packing and posting supplies" and come either plain or "write on"
The size I bought is 2.25" x 3" - this is "size 2" - they do also have other sizes
Hope this helps
Sue

I wonder if there's any sources within the US.. cuz we also have to think of currency conversion. I think 4£ is close to $8USD and that's to Ireland. It's even more to ship it over to the US and I wonder if there's custom involved. Does any one know of sources that's closer cuz I'd like to get them too...

Wal Mart, craft section.

Sweet. Awesome. Thanks.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

locsden, They are hard to find at Wal-Mart, and the employees might swear they don't sell them if you ask. They are near the beads and embroidery hoops -- and always below knee level!

brother in law calls them Wal Martians. My apologies to any who work there, but an apt name for some of my experiences.

Painesville, OH(Zone 5b)

Poop. They don't have them at our Walmart. Guess I'll try ebay. There should be some based in the U.S. Tamara

Pawling, NY(Zone 5b)

y'll happen to know how much they go for there??

Pawling, NY(Zone 5b)

humm... wonder if people would trade plants or seeds for that.. I wonder.. I got to find Walmart first though

College Station, TX(Zone 8b)

Do y'all have a Hobby Lobby? They prob. would have them.

Pawling, NY(Zone 5b)

no... we have michaels and joann that sell craft and embrodery stuff.. wonder if they carry it.

Painesville, OH(Zone 5b)

Just bought 500 off of ebay for $11.25 total. Tamara

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

I buy mine at Michaels - usually in the section with beads.

Pawling, NY(Zone 5b)

Michaels. That's a place I hit all the time.. Between crocheting and painting, I'm there a least twice a month to get supplies... I'll check that place out..

Central, ME(Zone 5a)

Walmart sells 150 for about $1.99 if you are doing the math for buying them elsewhere.

Pawling, NY(Zone 5b)

cool. thank you.

Painesville, OH(Zone 5b)

Sounds like I way overpaid. I'll try Michael's next time. Tamara

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

Jo Anne carries them.

Pawling, NY(Zone 5b)

Oh good... I'm right across the street from them... I think I will head over tomorrow then... Thanks.

Check out paper mart .com they come in bags of 1000, cheap. with white spot for printing on them or without.

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

I bought glasine (sp?) envelopes - the kinds that stamp collectors use for my trades. No trapped moisture in the seeds and no oil products used in the making.

Pawling, NY(Zone 5b)

yankee, sounds environmentally responsible... where did you get that?

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

eBay. But I think any hobby store that carries stamps would have them as well.

Pawling, NY(Zone 5b)

cool... thanks.

Ballintleva, Ireland

Oh - thanks for that "tip".....I've been trying to get the glasine ones...perfect for tiny seeds as the seeds don't stick to them....forgot about the stamp collectors using them!

Whoopee!....my search is over....thanks guys!

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Those glycine envies in the links are still pretty pricey -- 6x the cost of the plastic zips. Maybe we need to find the glycine manufacturer and get a coop going! And getting a bit smaller envies would also help the cost go down, I should think.

Also, those envelopes typically do not have glue on the flaps? There is something weird about how you'd have to close them for seeds -- a double fold and tape? Or is a double fold good enough (no tape)?

I checked out the clear bag place, it's a bit expensive when you factor in shipping.. I acutally got mine from JoAnn, 200 for $2.65(includes tax). Think that'll last me a while..

yes, the paper mart is costly with posage, but that is for a box of 1000 that will last for a long time and arrive at your door. FAST.

Painesville, OH(Zone 5b)

http://www.dianeseeds.com/ has smaller amount of glassine envelopes for sale. Not to mention a great selection of seeds! ;-) Tamara

Grantsboro, NC(Zone 8b)

I get mine at Wally World(Walmart) in the pill section of the pharmacy.

I like the idea of glassine but I have problems with it not being sealable...

Akron, PA(Zone 6b)

I don't remember the price, but I bought a box of small manila envelopes from Staples for a reasonable price (I think they were coin envelopes). It will be a long time for me to use all of them.

I have the plastic ones too, but I bought them at a flea market in Lewisburg, PA. I got 200-300 of them for $1.00.
