Hi Janet

Sorry about the delay in replying............... Been really busy with visitors etc. Had 'Lincolnshire Life' magazine round to do an article on my plants and an interview......... watch out for Octobers edition!! LOL

Ok, the Yellow Crocosmia looks to me like Nimbus.............. Its always hard to tell what they are from photos, but i am quite confident that is Nimbus.

You must be psychic! OK, will look up Nimbus, is that commonly sold?

You are getting famous!

Caistor, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

Yes i must be getting psychic.......................LOL
Nimbus is no too hard to find. Here is some info for you....

One of the most distinctive of the Earlham Hybrids. The flowers are Copper and Gold, with a distinct Crimson ring around the centre. RHS Award of Merit, 1918. 1918; EARLHAM GIANT MONTBRETIAS CATALOGUE 1920. FITT/ MORRIS.

Lincoln, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

I found some info on theafricagarden,

http://theafricangarden.com/page4.html

It's sold by mailorderplants4me which as you know is Bali hai nursery in Ireland, so they are either here from years ago or were brought from Ireland, I believe the previous owners had an Irish connection. I didn't open the link as there are nearly a thousand items to download on the page!

http://aolsearch.aol.co.uk/aol/image?query='crocosmia%20nimbus'&invocationType=imageTab

It does look much like it! You are clever! Thanks!!!!!

Caistor, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

Hi Janet,

Mark told me to quit lurking and reading and get you this link........LOL

So here I am and it is....it is for the RHS plantfinder.

thanks for compliment Mark - I did think the combination was lovely. The purple leave is Persicaria opulifolia Red Dragon - nice sprawly plant - Been a good crocosmia year - good long run and lots of blossom. Excellent.

Caistor, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

I knoew you would find it on Daves website........ (african gardens).

Yes its sold by Ian Scroggy too......... (Bali Hai) as well as a few others.

Its an Earlham Hybrid Janet, which means its a David Fitt bred plant......... he was the head gardener at Earlham Hall.

I have copies of nearly all his notebooks that tell what he crossed to get all the plants.

Another good Earlham Hybrid is Star Of The East.

Hi Laurie

Lincoln, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

Thanks Lauri! There's not many offering it really is there, and those listed on the RHS don't necessarily have it at the present, I recognise the nurseries as serious plants people though.

Oh Mark, now you can't treat Laurie like that or I will be over to see if she's OK! No more tipping her out the window either.........hehehehe

Lauri, I hope this cold weather isn't too much for you. ((()))

Caistor, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

Hi Janet,
I actually love the weather here....yes I am nuts!! Sure beats the 100plus degree weather I left...

I tipped myself out the window last evening and got the new bulb in and surprised Mark, hehehehehe. Beat him to it. I do give him a time of it..

Oh you are in Lincoln....LOL that is just down,up,around the road from us, I am still trying to get my bearings. If you ever get this way give a holler and I'll put the kettle on!!

Off to deadhead yet again...

The crocosmia in your brothers garden, is just crocosmia x crocosmiiflora...... grows like crazy in Ireland because of the warm current and lots of water......
They are also wild in cornwall area too......... for the same reason!!

Would loved to have seen the ones in Brazil........

Mark

Lincoln, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

Lauri, thanks for the offer! I don't get out much now, the road to the coast is one I don't usually take, but if I do happen to need to go that way I will holler! If you're ever over this way do the same, Mark has my address. Glad you give Mark as good as he gives.

Weather, hmmm, wait until the winter! I also came from a warmer climate, still don't like the cold winters but I didn't like the heat either.

Mark, I don't buy magazines, do they give you a preview of the article, a free copy surely. I would love to see the article though, perhaps I could stand in the isle and read it!

Mark, Star Of The East is one I have been sorely tempted to get, love the flowers on that and they are about 4" diameter. Culzean Pink has tempted me too, and a few others.....but I can't cope with what I have!

Caistor, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

Hi Janet

I don't know if we get a free copy or not, but i doubt it.........
It doesn't matter though because i think they put nthe mag on their website. If not, i will make sure you get to see it somehow.

Star of the east is gorgeous................ you will love it.
go on, get it.................... you know you want to!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL

Meanies if they don't give you one! I just checked out their site, they have some things to look at but they want you to buy the mag, they only have previews in pdf format of articles. You can look at the around Lincs map, click on a place and they have an article for each place.

I did laugh at your English accent, gee you sound funny on there........I had a tour around your garden too, very nice, still waiting for the cup of tea!

Thanks Mark, you could post the pics on here!!! Just take some good digis, easy!

Caistor, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

Star Of The East............. Just for you Janet.

Yep Mark, you can take digi pics of the magazine!

Tyger, tyger, burning bright
In the forests of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?

In what distant deeps or sides
Burnt the fire of thine eyes?
On what wings dare he aspire?
What the hand dare seize the fire?

Thanks for Star Of The East, oh yes, nothing can match that rich burnt gold, gotta get it.

Gent, Belgium(Zone 8a)

Thanks Crocosmia for the ID of my brothers crocosmia!

It might be a very 'common' crocosmia but personally I still find it the most beautiful one. If one looks very close you can see the richness in variety and graduation in tones and patterns of yellows, oranges and reds in its heart .

Caistor, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

Bonitin

Oh yes, its still a beautiful plant...................... ALL Crocosmia are beautiful!!!
Thats the thing about crocosmia, you have to get up close and personal, then you can see exactly why i love them so much.............

You are welcome for the ID
