Clare, thank you for the information. I may try one and keep it in the sun room during the winter.

Sure, Elaine. I think I sun room would be great in the wintertime. There is some more information on overwintering and how to treat your plumeria in the winter located in the Sticky Thread at the very top thread of the Plumeria Forum in case you have more questions, or you can always feel free to ask as a lot of people do the same when fall comes.

You guys are so funny. Chantell, I love that picture of your babies. I know you are all great people because of your love for dogs. Someday, we'll all get together. I am treating every day like it is Duke's last and cherishing him completely and totally. I lost my Duchess when she was only 9 years old and still haven't recovered from that blow. Here she is posing with a plumeria.

Thanks, Chantell. I think so too;-)

I remember seeing those pics, too. Such a beauty. We chose to have birds when we didn't have a place for a dog, so now we enjoy every dog we meet.

Thanks, Kathleen! Birds are great too!

Kamikid I am a way down from you and the Plumerias grow just fine outside in pots or planted, I got a lot from a guy in Debary, and he made a business of growing them, thats nearer to you. But Jeremy in Jacksonville grows them too (Jax Flax)

Seemama and Elaine, just make sure that, if you plan on planting plumerias and if you get frost or freezing temps in your area, you dig them up before your first predicted frost date. There were a lot of growers in Zone 10 that experienced record cold this winter, and many lost full grown plumeria trees and sustained lots of damage. Damage happens at 32 degrees F, and death happens just a few degrees lower, especially if the cold is sustained cold. Generally, Zone 10 people can plant them in the ground and leave them there, but Zone 9 and below have to protect them from the cold.

Edited to fix spelling.

The ones I ordered in the plumeria co-op will be small and I will put them in pots and bring them in as soon as it gets to the 50s. Are ceramic pots ok for them or should I use clay or does it matter. I am so excited to try and grow them. I do well with AVs but this is a new experience. Thank you for all your advise. I will read the sticky. Elaine

Black plastic pots are best.
Co-Op?

Elaine, I advised people not to try rooting cuttings this late in the season on that thread, but many people did not heed my advice. The second link in the cuttings section of the sticky thread discusses rooting cuttings. At this point, you'll need a heating pad and supplement lights to finish the rooting process indoors once it gets cool outside.

Edited to add: I agree that black plastic pots are the best to root cuttings in.

Im currently using an aeroponics setup to root.
The bucket sits on a heating pad to keep the water spray hot.
I have a 4 bar flourescent light on top very close.
The cuttings are rooting like crazy.

Malestrom,
Please tell us more. It sounds very interesting. What do you do in the winter once the cuttings are rooted?

Clare thanks for the advice - we did get a bit of a frost this year and I had them all covered in newspaper tents, which gave them some protection, only the tip of one was harmed, but it has since picked up again. If it gets bad again this winter I will bring all the pots in the patio and cover the planted ones a bit more substantially.

Ill be making a detailed post with pictures in time. ;)
I pot them up and keep them under lights in the winter with the rest of the batallion.
