Gloria, we get them from Faraway Flower, Buggycrazy, The Lily Garden, The Lily Nook, B&D Lilies... And tons of other places I can't remember at the moment. I personally can vouch for Faraway Flowers and Buggycrazy. Buggy has these bowling ball size bulbs she sends (ok, maybe not bowling ball, but at least baseball size). I was very happy with what I got from both of them.

If you read the website on Buggy Crazy, you will see her season for fall lilies begins August 1st. I'm not sure how so many people are missing that. It is worth the wait of 2 weeks for that to be current updated. You've never seen anything like those bulbs...so worth the wait.

Sanford, MI(Zone 5a)

Oh I can wait and I guess I dide't look close enough at the site sorry what are some good ones to look for I want lots of color. and hight

Where do I start? There are so many good choices. In fact, there's not a bad choice in the bunch. Wait until her site goes live, her descriptions and pictures are very true, from my experience. She givess all sorts of tips on each one and then you can decide from there.

GRATE can't wait I only have 2 and I think I bought asiatics an orengy red one and a pale pink I need a lot more for the back yard. And hollyhocks and other cottage gardeny stuff .

Make sure you really want hollyhocks. Cause once you plant them you'll never get rid of them. :) They are beautiful, but by the end of August they really look ratty.

Sanford, MI(Zone 5a)

I used to have some thay lasted about 2 or 3 yrs them poof gone don't know why that was about 10 yrs ago thay never came back
Gloria

Were they the powder-puff ones? I don't think those reseed...

Sanford, MI(Zone 5a)

I'lhave to make sure I don't get those again thanks

In terms of lily bulbs, all I have to say is avoid DirectGardening. I got really really bad rotting bulbs from them twice, dried out shells once and the wrong ones once.. So, don't get seduce by their prices, it's not worth the aggravation..

Sanford, MI(Zone 5a)

Thank you Lcosden I don't even know when its time to order them but Ido have the bed ready to plant whats a good link to bone up on them so I at least have an idea what I'm looking for? I want big bold and unusuale

Well, your basically in the same zone as me.. Let me know what you're putting in.. I've been trying to figure that out too. I have 2 mockoranges with 4 boxwoods as foundation planting. I have some daylilies that I'm putting in a flower bed... I haven't figured out what else yet..

Easy ~ grow what you love. How about some tulips, daffodils and irises for spring color?

Pawling, NY(Zone 5b)

I thought about daffodils or irises... but I want something that can hold it's own against daylilies.. I was toying with the idea of crown imperial fritillaria.. but they're a bit expensive at $15 for 3 bulbs and looks a bit lanky.. But the flower on it is very pretty and commanding.. Hummm..

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

I did not have good luck with the B&D lilies...and in fact had to rip a large and expensive order out -- some last year and the rest this year because they were showing signs of virus. So sad! From now on I am buying strictly from The Lily Garden. www.thelilygarden.com

I hope you let them know, Suzy. One year I received a bonus bulb (nothing really valuable, just a test lily that they introduced the following year). Anyway it opened up virused and I reported back on my evaluation and mentioned it. They didn't respond. Hey, thanks for the extra "bonus" folks was my thought! Ripped that sucker out of my garden real quick!

Sanford, MI(Zone 5a)

well I already have roses hosta daylilys daffs mockorange flocks foxglove lavender and a bunch of other fill ins in the front yard but I'm starting in the back now so its a whole new ball game I want big and unusual kind of cottagey so I'm out there today ripping things down and up ie, grape vines weeds shrubby things and the like on the edge of the yard. just getting started for spring got to be ready.

Pard,

No, I didn't tell them; I hate doing that for several reasons. One is they might say their flowers were virus-free and it must have come from within MY garden and the other is that they might think I am trying to pull a fast one and get free lilies. So, I let it go and just won't buy from them again.

Suzy

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

Suzy, I would tell them. It has helped them in the past make decisions about discontinuing certain lilies, if they are prone to virus. These people who 'live and breathe lilies' (to repeat Tickers mantra) would want to know this, this includes B & D. They will make it right. They are a good company, and as I have said before, the lily virus, no matter how hard you try, can still happen. Honestly, I know they wouldn't send a virused lily out, on purpose. It only hurts their business, if that were to be their business practice.
I'm not trying to give you grief, Suzy, really. I just know if it were my business, I would want to know that I lost a customer and why.

Sanford, MI(Zone 5a)
