What's going on here?

Sorry but the photo is not that great but I noticed this yesterday. I have several lilies in pots on the patio and this one looks like it has been attacked by something! I am not seeing any bugs around and this is not typical damage due to red lily beetle. Could it be birds pecking at the buds? Your thoughts, please.

Mainiac, I am finding J. Beetles on my lilies, DL's, Cherry tree's, J. Iris's, ect..... They don't seem to be picky about which plant they eat this year and it's P. me Off royaly! Could it be them??

Could be. I have seen a few around

They have been devouring everything I have out there this year. I've never seen them on lilies before, or magnolias for that matter.

Mags, are you seeing them on lilies or magnolias now?

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

Oh yes...and I have never seen this before. I always have a moderate second flowering on my 'Ann' Magnolia and they, in Japanese Beetle strength, are devouring my flowers, before they open. I have sprayed and they are still there. Seems to me, though seemingly futile, hand picking them works best. I do it almost every day. Into the soap suds they go......then the garbage disposal, just to make sure they are gone for good.
They never bothered my liles before either? I remember the bug guy in my master gardener class talking about insects and how well they adapt to survive, like eating magnolias at magnolialovers house.

Those darn jb's arrived about 5 days ago in drooves!! I can't keep up with them. When I eliminate a batch all their relatives move in. My newest "assistant" is duct tape. I can't stand to squish critters, and many would fly away while I was trying. I take out a few strips of duct tape (tack a few on the hem of my t-shirt) and touch the jb with the sticky side (plant won't stick due to natural moisture), then fold over a bit of the tape...voila...instant jb coffin. No yucky squishing or escapees.

Great idea daisecat! I dusted with Seven a few days ago. I've seen very few JBs since then..

Mainiac.....trew a few photos together so you could see what I mean about them being everywhere this year! Daylily, DL buds, Lilies, dwarf mock orange, Japenese Iris, ect....

Pixie, I had them like that last weekend. But they were all over my wild grape and Virginia creeper and asparagus. I dusted them with Seven and I have had very few since and those I hand pick.... Dusting blooms, tho, man I don't think I could do that for fear of the bees I'd take out.. I'm sorry for you.

That's nothing....this is on 2 bushes, Potentilla and Dwarf Mock Orange. They decimated these two......lacey leafs are "IN" at my house this year!!
