It's so pretty. Love it.

Isn't this a neat MG!
One of my very favorites.

Antoinette,
Your bloom looks like the lighter Fujishibori.
Most have more Plum-Purple Color, and one has more of a Creamy background color.

Here is one of my photos from a couple of days ago of the darker version.

Gourd,

I have yet to see a speckled flower in my garden. I bought three different kinds and they were speckled Nots.... one day...one day...!!!!

I`m even going through the trouble of a grow out of hand tied pods on one that was supposed to be giant orinoco. They Are giant but the speckles are kind of missing you see? I`m hoping a grow out will get me a few speckled flowers.

Or I could do some trading with you if you get plenty of seeds and could spare some. If you see any of mine you want to trade for send me Dmail.

Isn't this a wonderful JMG . . .

I also have one vine of the lighter colored form growing as well.
The parent seeds did come from Japan and have stayed TRUE for now 4-years. All are Open Pollinated.

I'll post some of my other blooms when they first started to bloom that I have saved on another DVD. One of my first blooms of the darker form had either 7 or 8 rays, can't remember which. I'll post that photo too.

Emma, I would love to trade with you.

This must be a recessive trait that breeds true every time and your flowers have ability to go to self. That means you have a placement of anthers and plenty of healthy pollen so the flower can go to self and breed true each year.

But I still wouldn`t take chances... If you are growing lots of other nils. There is still chances of cross pollination if you have other nils growing near by even though so far things have gone well.

Hi Karen,

Yes, my Fujishibori has remained TRUE every year I have grown it with zero exceptions. I rarely self pollinate my blooms. I don't have the time or the patience. So, I take what I get and just enjoy them. Actually with the HUNDREDS of nils that I grow each year, I get well over 95 +++% of my MGs remaining TRUE. And, what doesn't remain True, is just as incredible.

However, on some of the more rare vines that I will be growing next, I will be doing a lot of self pollinating with most of them.

I also hope to do some cross pollinating with my Fujishibori blooms, after my new granddaughter is born next week, when I can concentrate on my MGs . Bet I can come up with some awesome crosses.

Imagine a FEATHERED FUJISHIBORI *-*

Really Close Up

Do you notice the tall high up over the pistil anthers? That helps the flower go to self. These would be a real cinch to bag. You wouldn`t have to mess with them much because you`d look in there and see the flower already pollinated itself. My blue youjiros are like this too and very easy to work with.

In flowers tending to be low on pollen or ones with short anthers positioned underneath the pistil there is more possibilty bees will smear pollen off of a different flower and affectively cross pollinate them.

Antoinette,
did you only plant the one seed that is producing the Light Form?
or do you have others that haven't yet bloomed that may be the Darker Form?

Emma

Mesilla Park, NM

I sowed all four seeds and there are two vines in there, I think the first one that bloomed is darker, but I don't know how to get my photos out of Picasa yet..

Here is one that I thought was already open, but it opened up completely the next day about a month ago. I thought something was wrong with it and did not know that is how it looked before it opened up.

here it is open.. I tried to save every photo on picasa so that I can use my image card (it was full) so that is why they are put somewhere in space..lol

Wow, Antoinette . . .
Look at the difference in your Anthers from your photo that I cropped
and my photo here

Who knows how to do a side by side?
Jerry isn't here and I don't know.

Here is your photo cropped

Here is a side by side. It looks like that particular one with brown in the middle probably did not make seeds. The ones with the white pistil, anthers and powdery pollen usually do make pods.

This one here looks healthy and favorable for making seed pods.

I love this speckled flower.. today it had a couple of flowers, but I quickly played bee and closed them up...lol I hope the darker one comes out again. This had been thru hail and wind, lost all of its leaves at one time.
