Hey! . . . . we're taking over. . . . no one ever suspects the Canadians!
It is me...I am back
Hahaha yes we are quiet folks who blend into the background. We just sit around drinking our beer and watching dogsled races LOL You would never even guess we could take over muahahaha!
Seandor - just curious - are you still a Canadian or a U.S. citizen? No disrespect here but I am curious and yes, I do know what it did to the cat.
And those thrilling curling competitions! Hey, let's do bowling on ice and throw in some housekeeping - yeah that's a sport, eh?!!!
Or maybe shuffleboard on ice would be more accurate.
Yeah - well curling is a sport that "old" men like you can aspire to win an Olympic metal in!
I hate cleaning.
Actually - I have never curled in my life. My parents did though. And I hate cleaning too - i get DH to do all the vaccuming. lol
I don't mind cleaning in winter but the other 51 weeks I do!
I have never curled either - not my thing. My dh loves to golf though.
Victor I think you would find it quite interesting to be here in the winter when we build our igloos for the winter season. They are cozy LOL. Did I mention I live in hut during the summer months? LOL
And for real romance, you must book a room in the Ice Hotel :-)
Just when I think I've been all over DG.....I find another wonderful, fantastic, superfragalisticexpealidoius (sp) thread.........hallelujah for the free hearts of the universe!!!!
Oh yes Seandor - I have heard of that! LOL Can you imagine? No thanks! I think I would rather be on a beach somewhere LOL
Hey LouC how'd ya ending up finding us up here in the Northeast? is Desoto in NorthEast Texas??
My grandma lived in Edmonton and I never heard anyone say "eh" I think the first time I heard it was on SCTV.
Although, half the people on SCTV and SNL were Canadians. I'm a big admirer of Canada (except the weather)
I think we should invade. ;^)
Actually Dave our summers are great here. It does get very warm here and our summers tend to be around 4 months long....what I mean by that is nice weather. At least where I am anyhow. Winters can be tougher though...it can get pretty cold and snowy. I don't care much for winter myself LOL I guess I am living in the wrong country.
Dawn - if the choice is 100 degrees for 10 months at a time I think you'd head back to Canada in a hurry.
The summers in Canada are fabulous (well, maybe not Newfoundland!)
Summers in Kamloops BC average temperatures are warmer than here in Massachusetts, and weeks of 85 degree plus is typical, with temperatures getting over 100 degrees occasionally.
But it is DRY - no humidity, no rain either! It is semi-desert with powder snow in the winter. (very easy to shovel - and not much of it.)
Victoria has "Camlot weather" from the beginning of May until the end of September. Flowers start blooming in early February (camillias and bulbs). Victoria gets less rain than Vancouver or Seatle, so the winter is pretty decent too. I think it is Zone 9. Vancouver is Zone 8.
Not going to hi-jack. In answer....DeSoto is a suburb of Dallas, Texas. We are exactly 14 miles from downtown Dallas to the north and Waxahachie is 14 miles to our south. The later is where they poured millions of dollars into a hole in the ground for the Super Collider and then abandoned it when the parties changed in Washington.
I just love traveling around DG. There are soooo many wonderful people in this world and such good descriptions I begin to feel I have been to some of the places and the inhabitants are my friends.
Good Morning, all.
LouC
Lou - I remember telling you the last time you 'popped in' a few months back, you're always welcome here!
Seandor I wish our temps were more dry but when it gets hot here it gets hot and yes that includes that gross humidity! It has really gotten worse over the years. I don't ever remember it being this humid when I was younger....
Yes pirl I do agree I would head back to Canada. I don't like the high heat temps really. I prefer the weather to be moderate. I love Canada and I love that it is so diffferent from one end of the country to the other....so many amazing places here. It is great too if you are an avid camper, fisher, or hunter....we have so many forests!
Shhhh! Careful, Dawn - or they might really try to invade!
We try out best to invade every fall, Seandor and Dawn!
Hehehe
Incredible natural beauty. Abundant natural resources (including oil). Lower priced prescriptions. Friendly and productive populace that won its independence by asking politely. I still say we take'em.
Lou, Almost got transferred out your way to Plano when I worked for that "tiny" retailer JCP.
Speaking of Canada....
We were in British Columbia one yr and it snowed on the 4th of July. I also remember it not getting dark till around 11pm, imagine all the gardening you could get done.
.........and the size of the produce! In Alaska they have 12' delphiniums.
The long Summer days are definitely cool but I'll take the shorter ones with the warmer winters.
Winter isn't bad in B.C. In Quebec they have ice festivals.
I would take winter in Victoria over winter in almost any place in North America. :-) And they have the Buchart Gardens :-)

Enjoy!
OMG Michaela! That was wonderful!!!!!!!!! It just went on my list of places to visit....soon!
Yes - many people consider it the 8th Wonder of the World. The gardens were built in an old quarry. Truly amazing.
Beautiful - just beautiful!
Hey Dawn - if you ever get to Vancouver Island - take your kids to Long Beach - it's about as far west as you can go in Canada - next land mass is Japan, I believe.
Anyway, the rolling surf is amazing . . . all kinds of tidal pools, and HUGE kelp that little kids drag all over the beach.
it's one place where even if it's raining, the kids are having fun wearing rain slickers, rain boots and collecting shells, etc.
On the way to Long Beach, be sure to stop at Coombes - there is this sort of tourist shopping mall (well, cool little boutiques) and the main shop is noted for having goats on the roof.
On the East side of the Island, there is an extraordinarily warm beach (name escapes now, it's North of Nanaimo, at Parksville) anyway the water is very shallow. If you go during a full moon, the tide can get soooo low you can walk out for almost a mile or more and collect oodles of sand-dollars.
I love Vancouver Island - it even has madrona trees!
Butchart was the creation of a WOMAN! Let's not forget that fact.
Butch art. Hmmm.
Victor!
Victor!
It's okay - it's the West Coast - nobody would care. . . . Everyone has best friends where the couples are named Jennifer and April, or Bob and Dan.
DH even has a cousin that did the whole transgender thing. Went from Bob to Roberta. Very lovely woman now.
hmm........Carl Zeta Jones perhaps?
