CLOSED: What is this? Lobster Bug?

New Braunfels, TX(Zone 8b)

I hope this picture shows the bug enough. These are always on my tomatoes. I don't know if they are doing any damage, but they are scary looking. Look kind of like lobster bugs. Can anyone tell me what they are?

See if this feller looks like some immediate 'kin'. (hee)

From what I can see/tell, in your two photos - it sure looks like him.

Thanks Magpye - looks like that's what they are. Sorry to hear they are eaters of tomatoes. They seem to only hang out on the top branches, so I'll leave them alone. My maters are growing everywhere, so I will share. If it gets bad I'll pick them off and put them in an aquarium.... :-)

have i told you how much i hate these things? lol

they always aim for the growing tips of plants and suck the life out of them. they are extremely fond of tomatoes and roses, dang their evil little hearts.

They are the cause of all of those yellowing spots in your tomato fruit that are hard and not good to eat. They inject an enzyme to digest the tomato and then slurp it up. If you want decent tomatoes, letting them hang around is not an option.

Ah, good to know. I always wonder what the culprit was for the tomato spot issue.

They sure are interesting creatures though - could almost be pets.
