Northeast, NE(Zone 5a)

WOW! Check out the variegation on those leaves.I WANT!!!

Emporia, KS(Zone 5b)

Drats...don't have either one. ; ( lol

It wasn't just a bump...it was the mother of all bumps...lol They told me I had to wait before the dr would see him...so I was able to snap this shot (only I'm morbid enough...lol)

Sorry about the AZ shirt, MsC. lol

The Heart of Texas, TX(Zone 8b)

Poor lil guy and you even made him wear " That AZ shirt"....LOL
That is one nasty looking bump!

Drats...nothin' today.

MsC

Northeast, NE(Zone 5a)

CJ That is a mighty big bump.Glad your little guy is ok!

Emporia, KS(Zone 5b)

I'm realizing now that it must've been the shirt that possessed him to start running into furniture. lol

But it's gone down SOOO much today. Dr said it might cause a black eye to form but it hasn't. Also said foreheads are the thickest part of skull- usually a pretty safe place for ouchies. And that these bumps that go out aren't usually too much of a concern...it's bumps that go INwards that I should worry about. Yikes!! Didn't realize a bump COULD go inwards!!!

A frozen teddy bear...hmmm...that sounds like a really super idea!!! ; ) Thanks, Jill!

(Zone 1)

Oh, I've got 'Irish Sweeps' on my card!

CJ ... Oh, your poor little guy ... that is one nasty looking bump. I am so glad he's okay. It's really scary, especially when it's the head. Kids are so resilient and bounce back quickly, thank goodness!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Yea, I guess I've got the Luck 'o the Irish today also!

Heads are pretty tough, especially foreheads... but that's also a location where any cut will generally bleed a *lot*... and there isn't much soft tissue present, so what is there tends to swell up big time when it's bonked... so although head injuries can certainly be serious, they can also look far worse than they really are. When it doubt, check it out -- good call to have a doctor look at that bump, if only to give his worried mom some peace of mind!

North Augusta, ON

I liked this one for the cool yellow flowers...reminds me of yellow birds kinda...

Aeschynanthus chrysanthus

(Zone 1)

Wow! That is a really lovely plant! I am beginning to really like yellow flowers!

:( Not on my card though!

Emporia, KS(Zone 5b)

Still nothin' for today. I obviously didn't pay off the right people... lol

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7a)

No hits for me today... but WOW!! What gorgeous AVs! I don't do so well with the AVs, but i do like the variegates.

CJ... Yep, I remember those days. Had one almost exactly like that with my first daughter when she was 15 months old... hers swelled out just like that, but it turned dark purple-black within seconds. I'm a Fire Department Medic and I've seen the worst of "boo-boos", but when it's your own kid, it changes everything!

Karen

Northeast, NE(Zone 5a)

I had no idea there even was a lipstick plant with yellow flowers.Simply Gorgeous.....I bet they are hard to come by.

(Zone 1)

Isn't that pretty with those yellow flowers? I just bought the prettiest yellow flowered Columnea at Wal-Mart the other day. Maybe the Columnea's are known for yellow flowers but all I've ever seen are the red and orangish ones. Here's my Columnea:

Lin,I still can't get over how you found that gorgeous plant at Walmart of all places.LOL .Even the Nurseries around here have never carried anything that beautiful.Such a wonderful find : )

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7a)

Just realized I had the Aeschynanthus chrysanthus on my card! Woo-hoo! I missed that one last night!

Karen

(Zone 1)

Nancy: I was stunned to see them at Wal-Mart too .... our Wal-Marts NEVER have any Gessies except a few AV's in the spring time! This is one of those Exotic Angel Plants so maybe they will start carrying more good stuff!

Emporia, KS(Zone 5b)

Has your Walmart always carried Exotic Angel? Ours buys from some local dude- the tags all say Linwood, KS? Not sure where that is. He must be fairly big, though, because all the Walmarts in at least a 60-mile radius all buy from that same guy, I've noticed. And it's always the same boring plants. lol Wish they'd switch to Exotic Angel. Just curious if all Walmarts buy from local dudes.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Not feeling so lucky today.... nothing new to check off on my card, and I foolishly put the trap out again (in a different spot), thinking that the skunk had surely moved on... Yep, he was in the trap again this morning, and HE WON'T LEAVE! He is just snoozing, enjoying his snug little wooden "cave." I have resorted to banging on the back of the trap (it's draped with an old bath mat so he can't see me or squirt me through the screen on the end of the trap) and have sprinkled chopped mint leaves around the trap in an effort to make him uncomfortable enough to go on his way (without getting him so cheesed off that he comes tearing out of the trap with his tail held high). I guess he'll mosey along after dark, and hopefully I'll be able to move the trap before he decides to den up in it again for the day!

Emporia, KS(Zone 5b)

What a stinky situation (haha...sorry...could not help myself...)!

I certainly don't envy you! ; ) Aren't skunks nocturnal?

(Zone 1)

CJ: The Exotic Angel Plants are grown right here in Central Florida ... near Orlando. So, I don't know if that's why they are found all over Florida at Home Depot's, Lowes, Target and Wal-Mart. Our Wal-Marts carry other plants too but I think these nurseries that supply most stores are located here in Florida. There are so many wholesale nurseries in this state .... with the weather, especially in South Florida, they can grow year round!

Hey Ladies .... How's everyone doing on Bingo?? Anyone getting close yet? LOL .... just kidding, I know we have a ways to go yet! I've got 2 out of the 4 calls that have been made so far! Wonder if anyone has all four on their card?

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Yes, they are nocturnal... which explains his extended daytime nap in the nice dark wooden trap! I guess if I just want to catch bunnies and groundhogs, I'll have to start setting up the traps at first light and closing the door at night. I really need to try to trap a couple of new groundhog arrivals, but I'm reluctant to set up the big metal trap with a skunk around... it shuts with a scary clang, and I'm sure it's roomy enough for him to raise the tail with no hesitation at all!

Meanwhile, I've sprinkled chopped mint throughout the veggie garden, and hopefully that will be the end of groundhogs chowing down on my cucumber plants. Durned varmints!

(Zone 1)

Hey Critter: Are ya needing another pet in the family? Maybe that little "critter" is looking for a good home! Can you get a picture of the little gal/guy to post?!

...... I think he likes you since he's a Critter and your user name is Critter! :)

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

I might try again with the camera.... but when I look in, he peeks out for a moment and then turns around to display his business end, causing me to back away quickly and quietly!

Emporia, KS(Zone 5b)

You don't like that smell? lol jk

I have 1 on my card, ladylin...the gloxinia perennis. I think JanetS' luck rubbed off on me. By the way, are you here, JanetS?

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Actually, I guess I haven't been that *un*lucky today either... at least, the skunk has not let loose his WMD! LOL

I just had the two AVs... but I've sure been enjoying all the photos and links!

North Augusta, ON

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Woohooo! E. 'Pink Gator' was on my card... yep, on my wish list too!

Thanks for the skunk link! :-)

North Augusta, ON

I have wanted a pet skunk for as long as I can remember....I even remember my Dad trying to catch me one....he tried to catch me a baby porcupine too, with a fishing net...realized they have quills at a very young age....

Stupid government of Canada has made skunks as pets illegal though...darn :(

Emporia, KS(Zone 5b)

Just checking out that skunk link- domesticated skunks?!?! lol Now that I see the pictures, they ARE rather cute. Might be fun to have as a pet if you could take out that spray gland thingy. Anyone want to try it? critter? ; )

Emporia, KS(Zone 5b)

cross-posted, threegardeners. lol

I really didn't realize there was a market for domesticated skunks. ; ) They CAN take the spray gland thingy off, right?
