Mid, ID(Zone 3b)

Oh, it is a beauty, what a huge amount of blooms for a little plant!!!

So did anyone else get as big a kick out of the article in the latest AVSA mag called "How To Water Your Wife's Plants" That one had me laughing out loud! I'm getting ready to go on a two week visit to family come August and my biggest fear is what I'll find has happened to my plants when I get back!! DH will do the best he can but I know he'll feel just like the guy in this article. LOL !!!!!

~Brenda

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7a)

Yippeeeee!!!

:-) :-) :-) :-) :-)

Emporia, KS(Zone 5b)

lol That sounds funny!! I remember once going on a trip for a week and having to mark which plants I wanted watered for my FIL. And I also had to write if he could use tap water or distilled water on it. I'm sure he thought I was nuts. lol

Better take pictures of your plants before you go! Who knows if you'll ever see them again. jk Have fun on your trip!

Northeast, NE(Zone 5a)

Must be the "Summertime Blues" or something .... maybe everyone is out in this awful heat too much and is too tired to chatter?

I am enjoying the game so far, even though I only have one on my card! I really, really like the links to the photo's! Hopefully if anyone has one of the plants on the list, if it is called they will post their photo too!

Emporia, KS(Zone 5b)

We've gotta get warmed up. haha jk! ; )

Poor Chris...he hit his head while I was doing the dishes in the other room. Made a big old goose-egg on his forehead. I'm a first time mom here and I panicked and hauled him off to the doctor's office. He fell asleep on the car ride over and I'm thinking "AHHHH!!! Don't fall asleep!!!!" lol in case he got a concussion or something. My regular dr wasn't there so I had to see my old dr (that I left years ago because I didn't like...lol) and had a fun time explaining that I didn't know what happened, as I was in the other room. I'm sure I sounded like a real lousy mom. *sigh* But dr said he'd be fine- that he probably will have a black eye tomorrow but that's it. Ugh...

(Zone 1)

Oh CJ , your poor baby! You did not panic .... it was the right thing to take him to the doctor, just to be on the safe side! I was never blessed with kids, but believe me have taken care of many over the past 40 some odd years! And .... kids do fall and get bumps and bruises all the time .... I'd like to say, mostly it's boys .... but little gal's get their share too. As far as I know, you did the right thing by trying to keep him awake, at least that's what I've always heard! How old is Chris? Is he at the age where he will think it's soooo cool to have a black eye? Well .... I hope he is doing okay. I remember about 10 years ago taking care of the daughter of our Athletic Trainer at the University. His wife is a nurse and she was on call and it was a day when her regular sitter was away .... I had this cutie all day and about an hour before her mom came to get her was changing her diaper and she took off naked and ran down the hall and ran smack into a wall! She was not familiar with my house and boy it scared the dickens out of me. She had a HUGE goose egg right in the middle of her forehead! I was sooo scared. I called her dad, since he was the closest (University is less than a mile from my house) and he said he was sure she would be okay. I watched her like a hawk to make sure she didn't go to sleep. Her mom came in less than an hour and said she understood and forgot to tell me how the little one liked to take off naked and run around the house when they went to change her. I felt so bad .... it's awful having someone else's child get hurt when in your care! Anyway ... she was ok thank goodness and they didn't have to take her to the doctor. I was glad her mom is a nurse!

So ... I hope your little guy is okay and it's the first and last black eye he ever experiences!

Emporia, KS(Zone 5b)

lol It's definitely a first. He's almost 2.

I think your situation may have been worse, though. That's gotta be rough trying to explain that to the parent!! Good thing she was a nurse and understood bumps and bruises were normal!!! lol

Noblesville, IN(Zone 5a)

CJ don't worry about a little bump here and there because there will be plenty. My Gosh I could tell you stories about one of mine that would make you cry. He did so many things to himself when he was small that I was sure they were going to think I didn't watch him at all.

(Zone 1)

Just taking a break from yard work .... got the front done, still have the back to mow and trim etc. It is sooo hot outside 95 already and it's not even noon yet! And ... the humidity is making it feel like 105. Well, I see we don't have todays call yet. Will check back in later this afternoon. Hope everyone is having a great day!

Noblesville, IN(Zone 5a)

Plant don't you think it would be better to mow later in the day when it cools or at least the Sun is down? Just take it easy.

(Zone 1)

Yeah Makshi .... I started at 10 O'clock this morning! I just take a lot of breaks. Mow a few strips, come into the air conditioning for about 15 or 20 minutes, mow some more, come back inside etc. I still haven't gotten my backyard done yet ... it's mostly shade so it will be a snap. I mowed my next door neighbors front lawn for them. They are both work at their church, he is an assistant pastor and she teaches and works in the office too .... very busy folks. They are such nice neighbors and do so much work in the community ... with the ministry, outreach to young children and teens. I admire them so much for all they do. They don't have a lot of time at home to do yardwork, so I sometimes mow their yard too.

I know my limitations and get overheated real quickly so I always take lots and lots of breaks, drink lots of water and keep a wet towel around my neck also! It really helps. When I was younger the heat never bothered me, I could be outside working in the heat for 10 hours! We've been in this house 32 years and I've been doing this yard work all these years with help from hubby at times when he is off. I am 59 years old now and keep telling him that I don't want to still be doing all this work when I'm in my mid to late 60's. But, I will do it as long as I possibly can.

Well .... I will check back in later!

Emporia, KS(Zone 5b)

plantladylin- sounds like you could use a nephew that lived nearby who could do it for you. Have one?

(Zone 1)

Nope, CJ .... my nephews don't live near me ... one in South Florida and one in California! Anyway, they are grown ( in their 30's ) .... and unfortunately there are no young kids around the neighborhood that would want the job. I enjoy working outside, it's just the older I get, the slower I get and the more the heat gets to me. So ..... I just take my time. Took me about 4 hours but I got it all done. Took me longer than usual today because I mowed my next door neighbors front lawn too. Now I'm waiting to shower ... storms in the area, so I don't want to do it while lightning is out there!

Hubby was off for two months until just recently and he did it all, every week while he was off from teaching!

North Augusta, ON

Today's first call is:

AV "Lucky Duck" I get the feeling this is a rare one. Awesome foliage though....
http://www.avsa.org/Photographs/LuckyDuckLrg.jpg#http://../Photographs/LuckyDuckLrg.jpg#

(Zone 1)

ooooh .... finally got another one! Wow .... I'm up to two. :)

That is one purdy plant .... gotta add it to my "wish" list!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

I'm a lucky duck! That one was on my card... in fact, it was the last one that I picked! *whew* :-)

CJ, I'm glad you and your son got through that trauma. Bumps and bruises do have a way of happening, no matter how watchful parents are... I think I had at least 1 bandaid on one knee or the other from the time I could walk until I was 6 or 7! It's good to have a little ice pack on hand if he'll tolerate it to keep down swelling if he gets another knock. My SIL has a "Boo Boo Bear" (plastic cutie filled with some sort of liquid) that she keeps in the freezer...

I felt like an even luckier duck this morning... caught a little skunk in Grandpa's wooden rabbit trap, took an absurd number of precautions that wouldn't have been absurd if he's sprayed, but I was able to just prop open the door and let him amble on his way in his own time. DH was so helpful with the suggestions... I went to the dollar store so I had a bag of hydrogen peroxide and baking soda to take out with me, and by the time I went outside to open the trap I was wearing old scrubs, a huge garbage bag (worn poncho style), safety goggles, a dust/fume mask, a shower cap, and leather gloves... then of course he had to leave for work, and I'm sure he snickered all the way there at the way I looked in that getup... bit of an anti-climax, really, when the little skunk was so cooperative!

(Zone 1)

LOL Critter! I sure wish your DH had snapped a pic of you! Maybe you can get dressed up in your
"Skunk Trapping Outfit" again so he can get a picture for posterity!

:) hee hee ... I am still laughing at the mental image!
