Wow, Pirl has more deadheads than Jerry Garcia ever dreamed of.
Deadheading peonies & iris
pirl, I forgot I tried Meconopsis too I got them to sprout but they damped off,
I always seem to want plants I have no business trying to grow!
I think Victor is right Jerry Garcia would be envious of all your dead heads!
Dave amen

The short daylilies do set more pods (more work to remove them) than the tall ones. A few do hold their deadheads so well that they don't detract from the plant as the wet dish rag type.
Yes, Dawn and Dave, snap off those rhodie heads and cut back the peonies to the leaves behind the dead buds.
Just 'Pandora's Box' gives a constant 1000 deadheads every summer.
Looks great, Pirl. I know I would not be deadheading them. It's usually very hot when they're in bloom and that much stooping kills my back. I don't have much of an earwig problem and most of mine drop the dead ones pretty quickly. I'll deadhead if I walk by or am taking photos.
It's why I prefer the TALL daylilies!
beautiful DL's pirl! do you have a favorite?
laura
I only have a few but I love my penny's worth it is so cute and I have one called autumn prince that I really like too I love the tall scapes and the little flowers I got one this year called autumn mineret that I can't wait to see
laura
oh that is a beautiful one! I don't have any reds that one is truely red! does it form a nice big clump?
laura
It did before I moved it in November and nearly killed it: never again.
they are the polar opposite of each other in terms of height but the blooms are very similar
Good branching on Autumn Prince. When does it bloom?
I think it was mid-late august
that photo was its first year and I was thrilled there were so many scapes I think there were 3 the clum is quite a bit larger now so I cant wait to see what happens
laura
That should certainly brighten the dog days of August.
