Rut roh..the Pipevines are at it again

Edinburg, TX

Seems the invasion never stops. Gotta love it!!!

Was out at the ranch working on the area around the pond. Dad took the riding lawnmower out there and mowed the grass. Mom and I use machetes to lop off branches too close to the ground. I was trying to cut from higher up and was working the pruners over my head...but just when we were finishing up the last couple of trees the pruners slipped and I got hit right on the lip! Needles to say, I've got a cut lip and it hurts!!! Could've been worse...at least I didn't break my nose or hit my eye!!! Anyway, I gave up and decided I'd take the chainsaw out there next weekend and just cut the overhanging branches from the main trunk and trim up the others I'd already lopped off.

Took a break and watched a Pipevine lay eggs on the native Swanflower. :o)

...and when we got back to the house I saw a Variegated Frit laying eggs on what I believe is Nodding Green Violet...which grows wild in the yard...but it looks so similar to grass and grows only about 4" tall. I got photos of the female laying eggs but for the life of me I could not find the plant she was on! Either way, I staked the area out with a fluorscent flag and will look again next week.

...and also found two passiflora foetida vines growing along the barbed wire fence. Had seen some Gulf Frits flitting around when I was driving by on the golf cart so I stopped for a looksee. Saw a couple of eggs and some cute little catepillars :o)

Cat!
Isn't it overwhelming having all that property to "watch" over??
