Are these BOTH Blue Blizzard M.G.?

I took this photo a month ago and forgot about it. Just ran across it again and it made me wonder if the Blue Blizzard cultivar is known to get such a variety of color. These 2 blooms are from different vines. Both came from the same packet of seeds labeled "Blue Blizzard". Is this typical of that cultivar to get such a diverse color and pattern between vines?

Or are they two totally different cultivars?

I don`t think "Blue Blizzard" is a cultivar but refers to a color. What this looks like is the person you go the seeds from pulled them off of a plant that was blizzard patterned. It is possible the plant was not completely dominant for the blizzard so you got some solid ray pattern flowers. If the seeds were open pollinated then that would explain further that they are mixed with a different kind of flower and the blizzard is lost because it didn`t get inherited.

Another possibility is this is a blizzard pattern that begins with almost solid flowers and progresses to more white as the plant matures.

It is pretty though as is. :)

Nice flowers Becky.

Thanks, patootie! I thought they were very pretty. :-)

gardener2005 - What other M.G. could they be if it is not "Blizzard"? I like how it looks, but was confused because of the label on the packet. I just looked at a photo of a "Blizzard" bloom and these look nothing like that.

I planted 4 of these vines from the same packet and the blooms all looked either blue or purple like the photo. Unfortunately, the heat here made them short-lived. I had several flowers on each vine before they died. I wish I had more partial shade in my yard to grow M.G. vines much longer. Luckily, I did get some seeds, so will try them again in the Fall when it starts cooling down a bit.

What I meant is they could have come from flowers that were blizzard but did not inherit the blizzard pattern. They look to be very pretty blue and purple vines with a picotee white marking.

I like the blues! Look at the size difference in the two flowers.

gardener2005 - Yes, I noticed the picotee markings, too. Which made me wonder what exactly they really are. They certainly don't look anything like a Blizzard. I don't know anything about their parentage.

Joseph - Everything about these two vines was interesting in comparison. Size of blooms, color and patterns, etc. I wish they had lasted longer as I wanted to see what additional blooms would look like. Who knows if the blooms would stay consistent or vary.

Do either of these blooms look like any named morning glory? Or similar to something? I don't even know where to begin to look for something with those distinct characteristics. I'm still a newbie! :-}

HI Becky,

These look like seeds that you got from Cat that I sent to her that she never grew out.
The Dark Blue Bloom on the right is one of the MANY sports from the Henka Blue-Type that you've gotten several blooms from as well. This one I named MORNING STORM

The Bloom on the left. Same thing.
This one I named CLEAR BLUE SKY

Yes, Emma! I do believe they are yours! And they are beautiful!!! Thanks for IDing them for me. I had planted several of them and they all grew and bloomed beautifully for me. Gone now. All my beautiful MGs seem to be shorted lived right now due to the heat. But I collected seeds and now know what to label them. Unfortunately, I mixed the seeds of both together because I didn't know what else to call them. :-/ (They were labeled Blue Blizzard.)

The names you gave them truly do describe them! I DO like the names you came up with! PERFECT!!! :-)

Thanks Becky. . .

HEAT!
What is that?

I'm in Houston waiting to meet my 4th Granddaughter. Sunshine here and some rain, but it is still raining everyday at home in Jacksonville.
