is my river birch really 'fox valley' dwarf variety?

Wallingford, PA

3 years ago,I bought a riverbirch 'fox valley' from an online retailer. I was told it was a dwarf variety that would grow to about 10 ft. It's 1st trunk is allready a full 10 feet. Is this common, or is it more likely that it is a regular(non dwarf variety)? ......Also if it is going to get larger I would like to move it in the fall. Has any one had success in transplanting river birches? Any Ideas would help.

My Fox Valleys all planted at the same time, 3 years ago from 4in pots, are now about 4 feet tall, and very very full. There are no branches that seem taller than the others, very uniform. Extremely dense. I think the denseness is a distinguishing factor.

I am pretty sure you have the regular river birch and not 'fox valley', My 'fox valley' bought 8+ years ago as a 2 ft ball & burlap is now about 5 1/2 tall and almost as wide. It is, as pollyk described, very dense.

River birches should not be moved in the fall. They need to be transplanted in spring.

I have seen a 'Fox Valley' that was about 15' tall. Dwarf is a relative term.
