seeds again

College Station, TX(Zone 8b)

Ok, I'm a visual learner. I know you guys have told me where the seeds are but I can't find them on my vines. I looked at what was left after flowers fell off and I didn't see anything resembling seeds. The flower holder (yes I am a newbie) turns yellow and itself falls off. I took one of those apart and didn't see anything resembling seeds. Is there a site with pictures? (no, I'm not a blonde, lol) What am I doing wrong? So far the only one blooming for me is what I think is the Grandpa Ott.

Anne

Anne,

Look for ripe seeds in small spherical seed capsules. They are green at first then turn grocery bag brown color like what they look like in this fine image:

Here they are on the plant, down in the right hand corner. It's where the flower was.

That is exactly where I've been looking for the seeds. But as I said, mine turn yellow and drop off. Is it perhaps because of all the rain? I'm getting blooms on the higher side of my bed, but as you undoubtedly know we have had weeks of heavy rain.

ok, well I think that I'll tag where the pods are, somehow, and check again in that 30 days. I don't think that mine have been blooming that long. Perhaps I'm just getting ahead of myself.

This may be a lil larger

No that's fine, I get the picture (in more ways than one). This is where I was looking for the seeds. It's just like I said, mine are turning yellow and falling off. As I said before, could it be because of the rain or the type that I have. Thank you guys for taking the time to hold my hand on your holiday. lol

The pods grow larger over time. You won't see anything that resembles a fat pod within the first few days of flowering. It takes apx 30 days for them to form and dry enough to pick. They are not hard to find once they form. I am out there daily or every other day filling my bowl with pods..you don't want to wait until they are totally dry because they can just pop open when you try to pick. If the ball inside looks brown and the stem is turning yellow, they are fine to pick.....hoped the pics helped.

You mean it is falling off past the entire flower and down to just a stem?

Mine were falling off also, they are just now starting to hang in there... so it may take awhile, but they will be pretty obvious when they do form.. I am so anxious to start harvesting... those darned things are still green.

Here is the seedpod that is still green on SOH

Now, I have Scarlet O'haras, but they're not blooming yet. And the seed pods on my whatever they are aren't that large. By the way these are my vines.

looks like it may be Ipomoea indica and they very often do not produce seeds...
