Yesterday and today I told myself that I would be outside working by 5:30-6:00 in the a.m. to get stuff done before the heat. Here it is 7:30 and I'm dawdling around on DG not wanting to go out, it's already hot. I guess we should expect it, it's already July, right? Okay...stay cool everyone.
Sherry
Tooooo Hot!
I've put misters up on the patio and that's where I'll be found, not giving into the A/C yet. Do not want that big electric bill. I plan on doing my work early in the morning and the late afternoon...yes everyone, please stay cool and drink your water!
I went out at six this morning to work in my garden. Had a lot of weeds and grass pulled out by 7:30 Now it's patio time.
We don't have air conditioning, which is good because I'd have it turned on the minute it hit 75 degrees and I don't want that big electric bill either. My money all goes to water bills. I used to just go somewhere...driving I'd have the air on, now with the gas prices, I don't use the car air either. Which means I have all the windows down, which means I always look like I just came out of a tornado, which means it doesn't matter what clothes I wear because with this hair nothing is going to look good anyway, which means I don't need to buy clothes, which means I'm saving money all around...I shouldn't complain, huh?
LOL gypsy, who cares huh??!?!?
It wasn't too bad today, didn't hit 100 here, still the misters are on, watering was done this morning, moved dd's plants that she bought to plant in her backyard, about 75 of them but have them placed and ready to plant when she gets the fill dirt and the Roundup.
Now off to the iris garden to dig a massive order I have to get off on Monday.
Is there a fire somewhere? The sky earlier today looked like there might be a fire going somewhere.
No, it doesn't seem to be as hot as they'd predicted, at least not here. We've had some overcast which helps us a lot. It's given me time to go out and buy lots of cute little umbrellas to put over my nursery tables...I love Harbor Freight! We always seem to have smoke down here...Camp Pen doin' it's thing. Plus all the crazies out lighting fires. We'd love to live in Julian but it seems to get set on fire every year now.
It wasn't as hot as we expected yesterday or today - but I can feel that monsoon weather coming. We were out by Temecula and Rainbow today and it was steamy. Got a retractable screen door that we can use in the evening to get a cross-breeze. DH is on vacation for a week (and so am I!), so we'll be stopping at Harbor Freight soon, too!
We had an up close and personal look at the firefighters doing their magic last week - remember our view, Weege? The same day two fires started in Julian.
k
Oh, yes, what a view you have.
Except for the smoky bit that got burned! That's the difference in this pic. Not very big as grass fires go, but it burned up to 100 feet from one home. What was amazing was seeing how they attacked the fire with water/retardant drops by fixed wing aircraft, then the helicopters came in, and the hand crews. We watched the whole thing from our driveway and were very impressed. It's a little different watching in real time rather than just the clips you get on the news. Can't say enough about firefighters!
K, which Harbor Freight do you go to? We've found that the Escondido one is usually sold out of whatever is on sale, but the O'side store isn't as busy and has lots of what we're looking for.
Sherry
Sherry,
Wow, didn't even know there was an O'side one! We were at the Escondido store Saturday. Thanks, DH will be happy to know about this.
K
It's a much nicer store...we were happy to find it also. I bought a gazillion of the little umbrellas they had for $7 and a couple of the adirondack chairs for out in the garden...they're surprisingly comfortable.
Didn't see the little umbrellas. We've been looking at the Adirondack chairs for years, but just don't have anywhere to use them.
They didn't have the umbrellas at the Escondido store...after I got mine my neighbor went over to get some and they had about 100 at the O'side store. I have some good cypress adirondacks that will last for years but they were very expensive ...those I use by the house, but bought a couple of the Harbor Freight ones last year cause they're comfy and really cheap for the garden. I wouldn't buy the painted ones again, they're not primed or painted well and the paint comes off. But we got some of the unpainted ones and stained them...that plus one of our old umbrellas out in the garden is a great place to sit for awhile on a break while I'm out there working. Actually have two spots like that out in the garden.....getting old, need to sit down more often, preferably in the shade.
If I sat down in one of those chairs for a rest I wouldn't be able to get out again! We have a bench by the pond, but it has no shade (another project), so I head for the ramada or the screen room for a breather. Time to get my swing chair out, too.
