Went prowling through one of the better local nurseries and came home with this evergreeen. The tag says - Abies orientalis 'Shadow's Broom' Slow growing upright evergreen. Does well in full sun & acidic soil. Hardy to -40 degrees. Grows to 20ft high & 2ft wide. Any one seen any of these in an arboretum or collectors garden? I havn't sited it yet and am curious if any one has any experience with it.
Abies orientalis 'Shadows Broom' Info
Presumably an error for Picea orientalis 'Shadow's Broom' (no such thing as "Abies orientalis"!)

That's what had me confused. I have a Picea orientalis 'Skylands' and this new plant definitely looks to be in the same Genus. But, obviously I'm far from well versed in taxonomy. Any one with good conifer knowledge would have spotted it right away. I won't live long enough to see it attain maturity but at least I won't call it by the wrong name. Thanks Resin
Height and width are also incorrect on the label. Although it has a depressed center now it will develop a leader and form a small wide tree. Ah, well, that causes a whole new planting strategy. Much better to have found out before I put the thing in the ground.
