My Strep Babies

Third box. I took a little plant from each of these boxes and potted them up with the others on top of the fridge just to see what they would do in comparison to the ones I'm leaving here in the perlite for awhile longer....

And lastly, at least for right now :))) a box of leaves I put down in half perlite and half vermeculite about three weeks after the plain perlite boxes. I'm starting to get some babies up but also having some leaf rot issues which I did not have at all in the plain perlite boxes!

So even though it drove me crazy that the perlite was so light I had a hard time judging when to water, it is still obviously the best way to go with the strep leaves.

Bmedel..................I am sooooooo impressed............I don't know why I put my leaves without the vein in vermiculite................it will take me months to see babies.........if at all..............

Hi All;
I almost always use stright pearlite to put down my leaves,sometimes i get babies & sometimes i don't, they just rot. but i do get better results from the pearlite than from useing a soil mix. I also get some good results from spag moss put in a zip lock & the leaf put down in the moss.That has worked quite well for me alos. You usually don't have to water once they are in the bag.They will sometime rot also. so i guess it's just what ever works beat for you. Your babies look adorable.

I have some really nice streps that a man started in the spaghnum moss...........when I potted them up, I left the moss in there and just added soil-less mix...........they look great...........

Thanks for your input mrsbonnie, it's interesting that you've even had them rot in the perlite too. Goes to show nothing is 100% I guess. I've heard the spaghum moss is so good for a lot of things, I need to get some to add to my arsenal around here. LOL

Gail did you pull away the moss as much as possible when you planted them up or did you leave a whole ball of it around the roots? Did you take pictures per chance, befores and afters? I'd like to see them if you did.
