July 3rd Blooms

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

This is the very striking "Awesome' from Buggy. It had beautiful orange/melon closed buds for a week before finally opening today. Very different for me in color than 'African Queeen' , much more vivid. She's right about this name!

This is 'Jaqueline', a yearly deer treat, until Plantskyyd came along. It will be quite a show when they go into full bloom.

One of my favorite newer OTs is definitely 'Nymph'. I bought one that grew last season and I knew this was one I would like more of, so guess what, I bought (and scaled) a few more to enjoy this season. Does anyone else think this one is just wonderful?

This is year three or four for my 'Vice Versa' bulbs and somewhere somebody said it would look great with Russian Sage, both come into bloom at the same time and look quite nice together. I think there's a bug in this one, if you look in deep.

Ticker, you are right, 'Satisfaction' is a keeper ;)

ALTARI OT . . . new to me this year

SHOCKING OT . . .new this year. . . was a little disappointed at the size of the bloom and they don't open very wide.

I bought some cut lilies last week at the farmers market and one of them was '
'Altari', I combined it with 'Yelloween' , another great OT and boy do they last a long time in a vase together. Beautiful!
TwinLakes, you might find 'Shocking' will be better for you next year. I have always been impressed by its flowers (certainly not the largest, but a good size) and it multiplies nicely here too. I think the spring was tough on a lot of our wonderful plants, lilies as well.

Mag,
That could be. . . I got Yelloween from llilyfan last year through the Iowa Lily Society sale and it hasn't bloomed yet. How funny . . it is sitting right next to Altari!

I'm just so happy to have something new to look at. The one you gave me at round-up is just ready to pop! Thank you again.

I agree with , Moby. Those are two of my garden favorites. And tough to get a good picture, you done great, jmorth!

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

Wow, they are all beautiful!!! I want them all!! Awesome is wonderful, as is Vice Versa, Shocking, Landini, Atari! :)

I was out in the gardens today (yes, I skipped work today) and have been digging and dividing Iris. I have Iris Borers and I'm trying to get them under control before they move back into the ground. Will Iris Borers mess with my lilies?

Ticker, your lilies are safe. Last year I had a HORRIBLE case of borer. Talk about gross. It wa sthe fourth and I spenat all day evacuating those slimy things. This year is much better.

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

Good, cause as I was digging out iris, I kept thinking, "Ah, more room for lilies.." I'm bad, i know... :) I still have a lot of good iris after bagging and disposing of the yucky stuff. I have an idea of where they (Iris) will go, now I just have to get them there. :)

It's so much work, isn't it? Ugh!

Awesome is awesome! Another great lily from Buggy! She sure puts out some nice ones! And Nymph was a real favorite for me! Man, I can't wait for the bloom to come!

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Love the photos of Henryii. Mine did not come up this year. Not sure if the late frost got it or what. Do you think it may reappear next year?

Sorry if this subject has already been covered. I am crazy to buy lily bulbs from buggycrazy! Can anyone tell me if she has stopped selling lily BULBS? When I go on the auction sites I see that she is selling lily SEEDS..... Or does she only sell lily bulbs in the fall? I am desperate for her bulbs and have finally admitted that I am powerless over my addition to buying lilies and perenniels in general. But I guess there are worse addictions, eh? Thanks for responding with any information about buggycrazy or where I can get her bulbs. No red lily beetle in Saco, Maine this year!!!!!!

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

I'd be happy to oblige. Buggy Crazy's website is the most useful tool in figuring out what is going on for fall shipping. It looks to me that she goes live , so to speak, for fall sales starting August 1st. She also no longer does spring shipping for lily bulbs because of what she states as, lengthy power outages at the farm.
Buggy Crazy's fall offerings are something we can all be excited about. Can you believe how close it's getting to August?? Sheesh!
Here's the site.

Thanks everyone for your help regarding info about purchasing bulbs from Buggycrazy. I am a newbie/lurker and have admired with awe all of your bulb pictures. My jaw has dropped at the size of some of them. Well - I better get digging!

Magnolia -
I just LOVE the colors of "Awsome" and hope to pick up some bulbs this August. What do you have planted with those and what looks great colorwise with them?

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Well don't lurk any longer, mm ~ you're welcome to jump right in!

Saco, ME

Thanks Moby!

I have never met such a friendly bunch. Just goes to show you us plant folks are the nicest people if I do say so.....

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

Moby's right, please chime right in. We love company, the more the merrier.
And I must say, I adore the lilies the most, so I have them intermingles with everything from lilies, of course, to coneflowers, the neighbor to 'Awesome' is a hollyhock called Happy Lights, besides the other Buggy Crazy Lilies like 'Unnamed' and Yellow Flared Henry. I'm not the oraganized color palate queen, I plant what I like. Sometimes it surprises me when it looks more organized than I planned. Delphiniums are another nice lily companion, but of course, I like those too ;0)
