CLOSED: Robber Fly, Dioctria linearis?
I agree Janet, Dioctria linearis looks right to me,
Ken
Thanks Ken, will add it 'tomorrow'.
It certainly looks to me like the same species Dioctria linearis. I haven't any confidence in whether it is male or female,
Ken
I have compared it with another 'pair' I have now, which have the same/similar legs as each other so I think they are male and female.
I just imagined the female having the broader abdomen, I think it was another species which has a broader female, D. rufipes

Mating pair

Which I am wondering if they are my other pair.

It's eating one of my cute Yellow Swarming Flies!
