So is lacunosa. I loved this umbel...I just love when there's a mixture of buds and open flowers.
July Blooms
Top left hand corner is 8865 I got it directly from Paul Shirley--no clue what it really is
Upper right hand corner is 8864 from another DG'er P.S. has it listed as H. camphorifolia
Lower left hand corner is H. tomataensis (IML 1384) I got it from David Liddle
Lower right hand corner is H. camphorifolia given to me by another DG'er
As you can see the leaves are all almost identical. The 8865 has bloomed as has my H. camphorifloia. Flowers are close but not identical and the 8865 blooms are bigger.
My H. tomataensis has its first peduncle about to open and the 8864 hasn't done anything yet. It's going to be interesting to see just how close the tomataensis is to the others and even more interesting when 8864 blooms. I have a feeling that the 8864 from Paul Shirley is the same as the H. tomataensis from David Liddle.

Gorgeous photo's everyone. Ann, just a stunning photo of H. cv. Noelle. Mine is blooming away too, but your picture is much prettier !!
Thanks Tami - it's really just the luck of the draw. I usually take about 20-30 shots, and then hope at least one looks good.
I agree with Tami, Dr. K that's a beautiful flowa and pictua!!
Blessings,
Awanda
DM...neither of your leaves of tomataensis looks like Anns nor mine. Gosh...don't you wish there were some consistency!!!
Thanks Awanda!!
Bhavana34, those colors are the colors of cv. Noelle - I think they are some of the prettiest of the genus. The blooms look smaller once the corolla's reflex (usually this happens within a few hours), so I like to get my photos shot while they are still looking like a mass of big, fatty blooms.
Beautiful flowers and pics, everyone!

H. nicholsonae was a vigorous grower until last fall when it stopped growing and the leaves went pale and lost density. It hasn't grown at all since last summer, but it hasn't died either. I don't know whether I should be nurturing it or not, but out popped this umbel of flowers a few weeks ago, and this past weekend they opened - well, three of the nine buds opened. The rest never did, and tonight when I went to look at it, the ones that had been opened were closing, and when I turned the plant around to look, the whole peduncle fell off. They had an absolutely lovely scent all night long whlie they were opened. I'm assuming that this umbel of flowers is the plant's last ditch effort at propogating before it bites the dust, because it just looks so unhappy. But at least I got to enjoy them. And I have a new cutting on the way soon.

Lovely pictures, Mark!!!
Now, you must give us details on how you have grown and bloomed this (for many of us) very tricky little hoya!
What kind of light, soil medium, heat/coolness, humidity, etc.
Congrats on getting that sweet thing to bloom!!!
Ann
Outrageous pictures, Markroy68!!! Thanks for sharing.
Larry
Thanks!
Ann, I talked about my serpens a while back, the post is just above tami's picture of H. juanngoinana. I grow it in the mix I am trying out for all my hoyas with a few exceptions: 2 parts fine fir bark, 1 part coarse perlite, 1/8th part coarse activated charcoal. Surprisingly, if you water thoroughly, this mix doesn't dry out significantly faster than my old heavier mixes. Enough to keep me from overwatering, though.
I noticed last night that H. serpens has an interesting fragrance- similar to carnosa and pubicalyx, but with a not unpleasant medicinal smell, like menthol, maybe?
Re: Ms. Kitty's picture of H. tomataensis...it IS that plant. I got my confirmation from DL who sent me photos of the corona lobes of both H. tomataensis and an undetermined sp. from Sulawesi...and mine turns out to be H. tomataensis. Here is a photo of my mother plant...and the next one is the leaves and flower...grown in high light.
Don't matter what it's name is...I have to have it!!!! This thread of beautiful pictures is becoming detrimental to my pocket book!!
Carol, Is this the same one that you sent me as a bonus a few orders ago!!! I think it was sp. Sulawesi 8865 maybe???? Could have been 8864 I dont remember but it was one or the other!!!
dmichael
Ew la la, I love those leaves, and must put mine in higher light. David the small plant I sent you this spring is from Carols stock, I know you have several sp. from Sulawesi, so at least you know what one of them is.
Really awesome flowers and pictures everyone.
Well I have H. tomataensis IML 1384 that I purchased directly from David Liddle and it is supposed to be the same as the one pictured on the MSN forum but my plant is now blooming and the flowers are white. No color at all. Maybe it's my growing conditions, the light it grows in or any number of other things that is causing this????
dmichael
Yes David...that is the same one.
The pictures that David Liddle sent me of the coronal lobes of the two different plants, showed that the H. tomataensis had a white or cream corona...mine is a deep pink. Colors of flowers are so fickle...and can change due to so many things....
I had mine growing outside from a tree last year....so I have a tree covered with it too....it LOVES to bloom!!!
Carol
