July Blooms

Mesa, AZ(Zone 9a)

After 4 years I finally got a bloom on this hoya. I got it from Hanne in Denmark, but I don't have the name tag anymore. It has a light sweet smell to it,

Blessings,
Awanda

Lacunosa is nothing special, but it took me three years to get it to bloom. Now it won't stop, and I am loving it.

H. multiflora - I killed over 20 large Ants that were lapping up the nectar from this plant over the weekend!

awanda...your first photo looks like H. callistophylla...the leaves do too.

Interesting. Your H. samoensis blooms pink...mine blooms a like creamy white. Color is so intereting....

Wonderful blooms, everyone; thanks for sharing.

Hoya species has opened up even more, you can see the colors much better now!

Blessings,
Awanda

I just received this email from David regarding this hoya:

Hi Awanda
your plant has a different corona and leaf venation to Hoya callistophylla.
It is from Borneo though. I think it is best to call it just Hoya species as there are lots of 'sp.Borneo' around already

Ohhh, my kind of Hoya... large sized leaves, contrasting colored veins in the leaves, and those flowers are pretty darned neat. I love the way they fade from the tips inward. H. callistophylla is a definite on my want list.

Davison, MI(Zone 5a)

MullettMan, are those kenejiana blooms white? Carol's pictures of it are always yellow. I just ordered it recently from her expecting it to bloom yellow. Maybe yours is another variety. If so, I didn't know there were other colors.

Awanda, that's a beautiful callistophylla. I haven't been that crazy about that plant until your picture. I like both the leaves & flowers on that one.

Oh, Wow, I just checked out your samoensis too. Love that little bloom. I could get carried away, but won't. Sure enjoy the beautiful pictures of things we just don't see in my neck of the woods.

Cindy,
Nope, the flowers are yellow. The lighting must have been a little funky when taking that picture. Maybe the flash went off and washed them out a little.

These monthly "bloom" threads are not good for my wallet. I'm so glad I've always been a little careful with my spending or I'd be knee deep in Hoya debt and wouldn't have a penny to my name.

I just LOVE the coloring of those H. callistophylla blooms. And the foliage is gorgeous. Awanda, how is the scent of the blooms?

H. callistophylla blooms are great....but their downside is that they last for such a short time....alas.... I just love the leaves...

Nice photo of "Hoya species", Awanda. You must have been fast with the camera, to get just that 20 minute period when the flowers are fully open.
This is H. lobbii. No idea if it is the red or orange clone.

Well...Scat my Cat!!! I am so glad to know that I am mistaken...I should have recognized that sp. from Borneo as mine is blooming as well. I apologize to everyone!!!. Just sitting around learning myself....and I certainly am not going to pop in and do that again. :>)

Did David really sign off his email "Blessings, Awanda"? Interesting.

Oh Carol you're so funny, that's my signature, you should know that by now:-).

Here is a fun shot of a lovely little bird, called the Japanese White-eye, cleaning the ants off of the H. mindorensis blooming outside Bob's office....

FINALLY a mystery hoya has bloomed. I received it from someone who received it as H. poolei from BS (and it is not that). Some call it H. ovalifolia which it is not either. Per David Liddle's suggestion, I have given it the moniker H. sp. AH0006. The hoya is lush with slightly irridescent leaves and covered with flowers...

Hoya rubida. I sense a fragrance of rose, slight but there!

This is H. sp. Thai #3 which I got from Anders Wennstrom - the leaves are GREAT!!! Sort of like the big leafed clone of H. rigida.

H. longifolia...blooms at last.

Hi Carol,

I was wondering if your H. longifolia is from David Liddle and if it is, which IML # is it?..... I thought it was a furry white flowers when blooming.....yours is furry but with a bit of pink..its very pretty.....

Sandy

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Sandy...color in flowers can vary...so much depends on light (and the photograph light), nutrition etc. They are white...when just looked at. My flowers seem to take on more pink and I think it is the high light. No, this H. longifolia is not from David.

Carol

Medford, NJ

Carol, I love that shot with the bird.

Abbotsford, BC(Zone 8a)

Thanks for answering that Carol....I had it on the list to order from David Liddle but didnt...I will for next time.....hopefully it smells as good as shepherdii.

Waterville, VT(Zone 4b)

Hoya cumingiana is a first time bloomer for me. I started it from cuttings 3 or 4 years ago, and it finally bloomed!!

I'm really enjoying everyone's flowers this month. Its such a bumper crop!! I too, have a few blooming. H. lobbii actually opened up in June, but just got downloaded off of the camera tonight. I think Mark's H.lobbii will be the same as this one. Maybe some day I'll get more flowers in an umbel, it seems to be stuck at six!

H. lacunosa 'Tove' wasn't unfortunately getting any sun to help pink it up, but still puts on a lovely show.

Last but not least, H. javanica, which just might be Cyrtoceras floribundum I am now told.

Thanks Carol!!! That's the one you sent in March and I think this is the 4th time it's set bloom since then and each time the amount of flowers increase.

You think I should cut it? It's already in a 6" pot.

Jeri

Wow Jeri, your flowers are amazing!!

Thank you!!! I hope to have other hoya blooms soon. This is so exciting for me.
