i I have a plant that these bugs are sucking the life out of it.

I know its not very good pic, but they are oblong shape and black and the shell seems hard. They cluster together and my plant is looking horrible. That is the bud off my plant that they are sucking on.

maybe some kind of scale? except they would be on the branches and stems, not the bloom itself.

Well I sprayed soap water on the plant. Now they seem to be gone, trimmed off all the dead and did'nt see anymore so maybe I fixed the problem. Thanks to all who replied.
