Oh oh!!!!! Something went wrong

with the willow seedlings I got growing. I scout the f ront everyday and the back every other day, and sur e didn't notice this whatever it is on most of the willow seedlings. Got close to 50 seedlings rooted and they were growing nice and fine a few days ago and this morning I go out and find this mes s on alot of them.

Willows, her e are new for me. Usually don't find many willow s even growing. I started them for food for the butterflie s and hummingbirds.

Closer to the tips of the willows soem of them spots is a lt pink color.

Can anybody help me at all. Ha s anybody ever seen this and what do I need to do for these seedlings. please? Will post two pics. Sorry the oen a bit larger, but show s the spot s better.

Some sort of gall midge or gall mite. They don't do any serious damage - they're just part of the huge range of wildlife that willows attract. Perhaps not as conspicuous as butterflies, but equally interesting.

Thank you Resin....... : ) What a relief. ( sigh) Glad it nothign serious. I have seen galls before and occasionaly find a couple on the bottom of the Oak and Hickory tres but they are small round and brown and easily identified. Never seen anything like this before.

growing up up North we ha d a giant willow tre e in the backyard and I still remmeber being a kid and on hot days we would take our books and toys and go sit out under that tree and hide among the willow s and stay cool. Ahhhhhh to be young again .
