I have some heavenly blue and crimson rambler that have gone to seed already, is this normal? The plants are probably only 6-8 weeks old and haven't produced very many flowers yet. Will the seed production slow down the flowering or is this normal?
Also, as this is my first time ever growing MGs would someone tell me please, how do I know when the seed pods are ripe? Just wait for them to turn brown and dry up? Will these seeds be viable if planted right away? I still have plenty of time in the growing season and wouldn't mind a few more plants (especially after the hail we had here in NC last night).
Thanks in advance,
-Andrew

You can harvest the seeds when the seed pod is dry and brown. The seeds will be hard and probably black at that point. They can be planted immediately without stratification. It is normal for vines to produce seeds quickly, but you can pinch off the spent blooms to encourage more blooming. You will still get more blooming even if you don't pinch.
