CLOSED: Found on hibiscus.

Didn't seem to be eating. Just a big ugly one. When I tried to get a face shot it flew away.
Can someone ID this one?

Thanks, trois

Maybe this Acanthocephala femorata?

oh yeah, one of those nasty leaf-footed bugs. i hate those things. i sneak up behind them with tongs and grab them....and don't take them to a safe place and turn them loose! LOL

Isn't that what commonly called stink bug? The feed on plant apparently?

no, the stink bug is a little different than the leaf-footed bug. there are good and bad stink bugs too. they might all be in the same family though.

Good and bad, so some are vegetarians, others aren't? Please clarify, I'd like to learn more. Thanks.

oh, i'm probably not the one to help you. there are others so much more qualified here. i do know that the good guys are predators (meat-eaters) and they eat other bugs. they do eat both good and bad bugs, but they are still a great addition to a garden, unlike the plant eaters/suckers which do more harm than good (imo).

Thanks, claypa. That nails it. This one is very different than the type I had last year.
