June 23rd Blooms

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

Well, after a couple of days being pounded by rain things are thinking about drying off for awhile. So, went out and snapped a few new pictures today...

Could these be white tigers??

These are some of the oldest lilies I have... I have no idea who they are, but their color is pretty fluid from day to day.

And this is my ever faithful buddy, Bandit. :) He usually wanders about the gardens with me when I'm taking pictures.

Wonderful pics, Ticker! Your NOID yellow looks just like my NOID yellow. :o)

Mgh, that Midnight is just gorgeous!! How tall is it? I wonder what our yellow ones are? Keep those pictures coming!

Lady Alice - perhaps my favorite lily.

Diann, I would say that Midnight is almost 6 ft. tall. The lower petals of that flower are about even with my head and I am 5'4", so the taller blooms are probably 6 ft.

jmorth, Lady Alice is gorgeous!

How come my midnight and the midnight at The Lily Garden don't look anything alike? http://www.thelilygarden.com/pages_lilies/trumpet_1.html Me thinks mine is named wrong......

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

I guess I don't think it looks that much different??? Lighting conditions always play a roll in what the picture looks like and we're not really seeing up into the center of the Lily Garden one as we are yours. Either way, I think you have a stunning lily and a keeper. ;) However, if you don't want it, it can come live with me. :) LOL

Ok, here's my contribution for yesterday, didn't get this posted cause In-laws showed up to go out for dinner and I had to log off right then.

Here is Tinos, given to me by my sweet friend Tracey aka Magnolialover. This is an absolutely beautiful lily and my father-in-law agrees and says it has a faint scent. Now, I know where my husband gets his sense if smell from... Anyway, here's Tinos...

Glad you liked it, Ticker. It's one of my favorite asiatics. So pretty.......

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

Mags, it's rapidly becoming one of my favorite asiatics, too. :) Thanks again, sweetie!

using the first Lady Alice as my desktop picture- it's gorgeous!

My Tinos looks a little different but still you can see the tiniest bit of red at the center.

Would you say the fragrance is reminiscent of rose?

Instead of referring to our 'sense of smell', wouldn't be fun to torture the homophone challenged to say 'sense of scents'? (or just cruel?)

I tried to get a better pic of the outside of my Midnight today. It's very windy today!

I think mine just looks like it has white on the outsides of it and the one at TLG looks to be all one color.

I have yet to see Midnight that looked like the pic at LG. Here's mine again

Has anyone purchased Midnight from the Lily Garden or are you getting them from other sources?

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

I know mine was given to me, but I can't remember who I got it from. It was either you or Moby. :o) I'm thinking it was you, Pard. I seem to remember you saying it was a Midnight strain........what does strain mean? Hmmm.....do you have Midnight? Am I remembering right? LOL I could be completely making this up! LOL

You are making it up Mendy;-) You got Schez from me.... I do have one bulb of Midnight strain I got from the Lily Pad up at the Yard Garden and Patio show in Portland. The point I want to make is that as a "strain" the bulbs are not all identical as they are grown from seed. So one would expect a variation in the deepness of purple. I asked about the Lily Garden because their catalog, while describing it as a strain, they go on to say it is "....the deepest, richest hue of purple". If I didn't get that from the Lily Garden I would send them a picture along with a complaint, especially as they charge $15 for one bulb!

This subject comes up every year here when peoples' Midnights open and they are not what they were expecting (ie, something deep, dark and sultry...)

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

Ok, well that won't be the first time I make something up. LOL! Sorry, Pard. Also sorry to say the Schez you gave me didn't make it. It rolled out of the bag under my patio table and I didn't see it.....it ended up freezing. :o( I'm a bad lily mom.

That explains it about the Midnight then. It doesn't matter to me if it isn't just like the one on TLG....I like mine better anyway! LOL I just didn't want someone to come on and tell me it wasn't Midnight.......that has happened in the daylily forum and it is kinda frustrating.

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

This just got me thinking about the ones that Moby gave me and I just realized that my Nove Cento didn't come up at all this year. I wonder what happened to it.....we don't have little critters around here that might damage it. Hope it didn't rot. :o(

Saint Bonifacius, MN(Zone 4a)

Okay Mag (and Ticker), I usually don't go for upfacing lilies too much, but that Tinos . . . . a knockout. Keep me in mind for a little bulblet this fall of your type (with the red). And keep a watch for anything you see of mine that you like. I am sure I'll be making a list this fall of surplus bulbs too.

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

I got my Midnight from Lily Garden.

Mendy ~ I still have my Nove Cento but lost Endless Love. Perhaps we can check if we have enough to swap this Fall.

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

I really think that the Lily Garden should be open about what you may get if you order Midnight Strain. The parentage of Midnight strain as described in the Lily Registry is Aurelian hybrids X L. leucanthum var. centifolium (a yellow throated white trumpet specie).

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

I would love to trade, Moby!

I'm sorry, Pard, but I don't understand all that. Too much for my simple brain. LOL I agree that they should tell people that it might look a little different than what is pictured though. :o)

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

Sorry Mendy. I was in a hurry and there is no way anyone would understand the point I was trying to make... It appears that the Midnight strain has a yellow throated lily in it's genetic background and Moby's Midnight has a yellow throat. I think that's the first time I've seen one with a yellow throat like that. It certainly is a far cry from the seller's description isn't it?

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

No problem. Thanks for making it more simple for me. :o) Yes, very much different from their description.

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Yes, and I think my Midnight looks just like my Pink Perfection, though the latter bloomed a tad later. And a far cry from the description, indeed.
