There is a flower bud on Mrs Slocum!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your tip for feeding has really worked thanks phicks. She has recently thrown up 3 sturdy leaves well above the surface and now there is a flower bud too!! So frustrating 'cos I'm going to the UK for a couple of weeks and it is going to open while I'm away :(
Will implore daughter/granddaughter to take photos.............

Lakeland, FL(Zone 9b)

Are you French?

Castelnau RB Pyrenée, France(Zone 8a)

No, I moved out here from the UK 3 years ago, with mother (96), daughter, SIL and their 2 daughters.

Going in the camper (with my Mum!) to see my son and some friends still in the UK

If you keep feeding it will make around 3 to 5 flowers this year you should get to see a couple . ive spent lots of time in Europe England mostly germany and holand tho

Castelnau RB Pyrenée, France(Zone 8a)

Which part of England?.......or all over? I was born in Chester - gorgeous city! but have spent most of my life in Kent in the SE, 40 miles from London. My father was from Bridgend in S Wales and we spent lots of time there too, rock pooling etc :)

I don't know Holland or Germany, though I have Dutch friends.

Thanks for the advice, I'll go and stick some more fertiliser in the pot now.........

I think mine has finally left the water! Still not looking great though. I moved it to the greenhouse. But with only one week of strong sun, i think its still not growing well enough.

Phicks didn't know you had been here.... you poor thing!

Off to Holland next week....could be fun!

How do you tell when the seeds are ready?

Lakeland, FL(Zone 9b)

they will turn brown and become loose in the holes on the head i net mine after they start makeing seeds

Castelnau RB Pyrenée, France(Zone 8a)

Thanks, I'll do that. I also know where some white ones grow, so, when mine are ready I'll go along and see if any of those are reachable....

Lakeland, FL(Zone 9b)

why did you move to france ?

Castelnau RB Pyrenée, France(Zone 8a)

A few reasons. Mainly my sonIL was working in London and not seeing his daughters and they had already sold up and were looking for somewhere to have a different life (Spain, Portugal, Canada, Australia....). By chance a friend asked me to join her on a trip to France looking into a move there for someone else and while there I realised the properties were cheaper than in the UK. So moved out here with my Mum, who's now 96 and had got to the stage of needing someone close by, and my daughter, her husband and their two girls. The girls are now bilingual :) My daughter and family have apartments in the house that they let out as self catering holiday homes.
My husband has dementia and has been in a special hospital for years. Just before the move he had got to the stage of not knowing anyone any more, so it seemed that the younger generations needed me more.
Then there's the overcrowding in the UK and everything disappearing under concrete........ and it takes 30 minutes to do a 10 minute journey because you are sitting in a queue of other people trying to do a 10 minute journey..... Hmmmmmmm

Lakeland, FL(Zone 9b)

ya england is over crowded geting that way to in the usa i may end up in germany

Castelnau RB Pyrenée, France(Zone 8a)

Would have expected Germany to be more crowded than the USA. Suppose it depends on the location. Why Germany?

Lakeland, FL(Zone 9b)

i have family there

Castelnau RB Pyrenée, France(Zone 8a)

So was it you or your forebears who went to the States?

Lakeland, FL(Zone 9b)

Castelnau RB Pyrenée, France(Zone 8a)
