If i weren't so lazy I would go back and take another picture that isn't blurry of Peridot's Potlatch.....inside the flowers are magnificent.....these are all new babies still in their original pots....need to get them out and replant!!!

Is that Diane Marie chirita that I see blooming there? I think I recognize it as mine has just added two more blooms and is looking very pretty too.

My kohleria order from Gary's Out of Africa arrived yesterday!! Your right, Gail he was so easy to deal with and I love my plants. I'll resize my pics and show you soon. Mother's Lipstick had an open bloom on her and although it is squished from the trip it is still pretty. I'm going to love these!

I don't have access to my old pictures ............this is a loner...........from the tech, but Dianne marie was much prettier than this one when she bloomed....,this one just says chirita senensis????????
Diane Marie was covered in the lavender blooms.....

The tech is going to be able to save all your pictures right??

Here are my two new Diane Marie blossoms, they are similar in color to yours above. These are on the same very short stem that my first blossom came on so they don't stand too tall. Maybe the next one that is forming will.

The blooms on my Diane Marie kept getting taller and taller.

The computer tech thankfully is so good he build all kinds of computers customized......the only way he can save everything i have (which I never backed up!!!) is to put in either 2 or 3 hard drives in the new one.........he will simply go in and take the hard drive out and put in my new one.......then everything will be available.....
I have only one big decision to make and not educated enough about computers to decide....my old computer was from Dell (boo!!!!!!!!!) and only 14 months old and of course we can't get any service at all from Dell (they think that by calling Michael Dell back in to run the company he can save it........good luck......sell me something bad the first time, shame on him......second time shame on me.......there will be no second time for me)
Back to the decision........Vista is only 6 months old and very new....I think I am too old to have to learn something this difficult and it is difficult.....lots of people say so...........I am thinking that i will just let him install another XP system so i will already know where everything is..........
I probably could learn to use Vista but i am lazy and don't want to........anything new is scary....just like the IE...........i dowloaded that and the bugs are still not out of the new internet explorer.....

I think Diane marie is the prettiest of them all although i am waiting for 'Aiko' to bloom yellow.....I have also heard that Vertigo and Betty have gorgeous blooms...I ordered a new one the other day called 'nakao' (I think that is how it is spelled????)

(Zone 1)

I love 'Diane Marie' ... mine has been blooming for about three or four weeks now.

Here's Chirita 'Aiko' that was given to me by Hoya_24 and he wouldn't even accept postage for it! It's a large plant and about to bloom! I can't wait to see those yellow flowers .... she's got lots of buds:

Lin, the leave are very smooth and shiny....it does have buds....one of us doesn't have an 'Aiko'..........laughing my head off!!!!!!! I am going to plant files or to Rob's........to look.........this is too funny...

That is a beautiful big plant Lin!! Looks like it made it through it's shipping just fine. Be sure and take pictures to share when those blooms open up!

It will be interesting to see who's got what.....

Beautiful ladies.A yellow blooming chirita? Sound lovely.
Gail, what kind of plant is Peridot's Potlatch?

Beautiful, gorgeous plants, ladies! :o) I love Chiritas! I'm leaning really hard toward ordering that Nautilocalyx from Rob and if I do, I'm getting Diane Marie, too. I've wanted it forever and am tired of waiting, especially now that I see those blooms! LOL *See* what y'all are making me do? ROFL ;o)

Chirita 'Silver Surfer' has buds. See them, one on each side? They're very small, but at least they're there! LOL It has a long neck, too. I was planning to repot it today, but now that I found the buds, I don't know whether to or not. Probably will anyway... LOL

Jan, Peridot's Potlatch is a Kohleria........ordered a few from Rob so they are very small, but 2 are blooming.........can't wait until they get tall enough to take cuttings.....i am anxious to do what Rob says to do..........that is, take 3 cuttings in a bigger pot for a very full Kohleria....

Now see, DG is just the best place for a newbie like me! I have been thinking that it's way past time my other chiritas to at least put on some buds and with Rain's picture here I now know that what I thought were yet more new leaves are actually some little buds (the close up really helps) on my Blue Moon and even a little tiny one on my Betty!!!! My Hiasko is still mad about all the suckers I took off of her (like 6!) and she is just sitting there but I'm thrilled to know the other two are finally progressing a bit!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

We all thought that mine was just putting on new leaves...........I don't ever pinch on chiritas.....when they need repotting, I take the bottom leaves off if I need to because they are ugly.........Snow says i can cut the root from the bottom and bury the neck in new soil if it is not more than 1/2" tall.................

Isn't it great that we all share what we know? There's sooo much I'm clueless about, but I'm always tickled to share the little tidbits I've learned from experience. It makes it so much nicer when one person posts their failure or success and all the rest of us can learn from it so we don't all make the same mistake. :o)

Here's a side by side comparison of suckers and buds on Chirita 'Moonlight'. Suckers on each side, bud in the middle.

Here is a picture of my new (and very first!) Kohleria's that came on Friday from Gary's Out Of Africa. Over half of them have buds forming!!! The Mother's Lipstick had a bloom. The bloom had suffered in the trip and I couldn't get a good picture of it but in person I could tell it had been a beauty!

Gail one of mine had Peridot in the name but it is called Peridot's Kitlope.

I left the packaging on one of them in this picture as it was really something!! And when you got it untaped and opened it all up and then got the plant out of the florists sleeve there was that fluffy green easter basket type grass all around the bottom stalk of the plant. They traveled very well!

Those are beautiful! What is the one in the middle with the dark leaves with the red backs?? I love red-backed leaves! :o)

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I have Peridot's Kitlope, too......Those look big enough to almost take cuttings..........read that page that Rob has....I put it on this thread i think

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

wrong thread......here it is on propagating Kohlerias.....haven't talked to Snow or Ki about it....they always know best.....but this is a good page on Kohlerias

http://www.robsviolet.com/propagating.htm

Thank you Gail I had been meaning to go check out Rob's after you had mentioned this page but the link made it easy! I'm still not quite to the point where I can just chop buds or flowers off to get cuttings LOL but after I see some booms I can definitely see where one nice full pot would be preferable over a tall leggy plant! Sounds easy too!

Those rhizomes are creepy looking! :0) I was planting outside yesterday and I saw something that looked just like that only with lots of legs and wiggling about!! He got shoveled way to the other side of the bed from where I was working!!! LOL

Rain..... that darker foliaged one immediately caught my eye too, here is the description from the Out of Africa page...

PEARCEA SP. EQUADOR---( very similar to kohleria ) Dark red hairy leaves and stem, yellow/orange/red hairy blooms.

When I placed my order I asked for the sellers choice but mentioned my love of yellow blooms and Gary went above and beyond in that at least half of these will also have some sort of yellow in the bloom. Wasn't that great of him??

Here is another shot of Pearcea sp Equador with the lighter colored kohleria on each side.

aren't you excited????

Mid, ID(Zone 3b)

Excited?? Oh yes, I was doing my little happy dance again as I sat here with each of the Kohlerias lined up at my desk and then checked their names to the descriptions on the web page!! Here are a few.......

HIRSUTA---Soft hairy leaves and the flower is yellow with red hairs.

BRIMSTONE---Dark green velvety leaves, small red/orange/yellow flowers with red dots.

SNAKESKIN---Dark leaves with broad silver veining. Blooms are orange/red with red dots over a yellow/creme throat and face.

TANE---Brilliant tangerine flowers. The compact growing, dark green foliage has a red reverse and red margins.

I think there are also three of them that aren't even on his web page so those are really exciting as they will be complete surprises when they bloom!!

DC metro, VA(Zone 7b)

Very nice, Gail! Chirita sinensis is a natural species and has some of the prettiest leaves.

Thanks for telling me about the Pearcea, Brenda. It really is lovely. He does have a couple streps I want... LOL

Mid, ID(Zone 3b)

Rain I'm going to get my gift certificate from the Bingo game for Gary's...what are those streps your thinking of? Maybe it will help me make up my mind!!! :0)

~Brenda

Super vendor choice, Brenda! Museum of Art is an absolute definite for me, either Black Gardenia or Black Magic, Spooky, and Purple Pepper. You'd like Moonlight as it has a lot of yellow in the throat. :o)

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I don't have those, RainGazer........sorry!!!
