Advice needed

North Augusta, ON

Hi all, I lurk here on a very regular basis, this year I ordered 3 kinds of JMG and got some in a trade. Now, I planted them all directly in the ground. The only ones that came up were the ones I got in a trade (thank you Beth!!) Since I planted them in the ground, I don't know if I should leave negative feedback on the place I got them from. What do y'all think?

How long have they been in the ground? It may be not quite warm enough for them to sprout. I know we have had some on and off rather cool weather here in PA. Some are much slower to get going too than others.

Did you chip the seed coat and soak the seeds before putting them in the ground? How deeply did you plant the seeds?

Oh dear, chip the seeds? I didn't realize JMG's needed that. I just made a little trench and planted em in a row like I have always done with my regular MG seeds, always worked for me. Are the JMG's so very different? I guess we'll put the non germination down to operator error :)

Chipping the seed coat just speeds up the germination process. The seeds may germinate anyway, except it will take longer period of time.

Contact the seller and see if they give 2nd chance seeds. If you plant them directly in the ground there are always chances of bugs and critters eating the cotyledons. So you don`t know what happened to them. Always contact sellers and discuss troubles that can and do come up with seeds.

Leaving negative Feedback because your seeds did not germinate could very possibly be Feedback abuse/ Feedback extortion.

It is my position that the sellers on eBay do not have any responsibility for how buyers try to germinate and grow their seeds because you never know what method(s) were used. A seller
can not see the situation from their chair.

threegardeners, I would recommend that you try to find your seeds. Hopefully you didn't bury them deep, so all you need to do is scratch around in the soil to retrieve your seeds. Then I would recommend that you soak your seeds and get them germinating and plant in a container before they go in the ground.

email me and I'll be more than happy to send you some very detailed germinating instructions emma.grace@suddenlink.net

AND, will be happy to send you a few seeds as well to enjoy this growing season.

Thank you, I'll go dig around and see if I can find em......and....next seeds I get will be started indoors, and guarded...
