I sowed seeds to this morning glory. The seeds was from a commercial pack, of picotee blue MG.The leaves are good size. The MG was grown in a hanging basket. This Mg don't resemble picotee blue? The bloom is 41/2 inches.

Skimper, it's a beautiful m glory. Lets see what you get from the other seeds from this pkt. I love the color.

Jackie; I like the MG also.I want a picotee blue to show up.

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

You might still get the blue picotee. You're referring to the one that's
sometimes a dbl with the fancy shaped petals? I must say that I
like this one just as well. It is a picotee, just not a blue (to my old eyes) and not the one you wanted.
Skimpr, my dbl blue picotee came from Seymours catalog. Used to
be called Lady Seymours. Mine were never dbls but the blue was
lovely. I've got some old seed I could send you later if you don't
end up with one. May still be viable.

This is the same M.glory I grew ,in the hanging basket.
The seeds was from a commercial pack of picotee blue? The MG is different in color. This is the second bloom this time. This mg looks like the type to be grown on a trelliss, the leaves are large.I wish I knew the name of this M.G? Not even close to the picotee blue. The bloom is a mere under 6 inches across.

Karla,

I got the same exact blooms. Your bloom appears to be a Darker Blue than mine, unless it is the camera or lighting.

Louisianamark also got these exact same blooms. He wrote Livingston seeds and they confirmed that their grower got this particular seed mixed in with the Picotee Blue [as they call it] seeds and have no clue what the name of it is.

WE ALL NEED TO FIGURE OUT A NAME FOR THIS LITTLE BEAUTY,
since so many of us have it.

Maybe we can have a Name This Morning Glory voting???

Why not do grow outs of selfed pods to check the genetics? If it is a cross between picotee and a large flower then different looks will appear in F2.

This is a grow out result of F2 of kikyo(also is picotee white) x large flowered JMG

So far all look single but everything hasn`t bloomed yet. A percentage of another youjiro x picotee showed double blooms on a bit larger than kikyo flowers.

This is one that we have growing that's simular to your unknown type.

If you could show a full leaf maybe someone can ID your plant. There are some JMG that will produce simular looking flowers but the leaf is what sets them apart and also the size of the flower.
That information is much needed to get a positive ID. http://davesgarden.com/forums/fp.php?pid=3645738

Hello:Dee here is a photo taken today of the same MG.Below the Mg is the leaf it is a darker green color.as you can see there is 2 different leaf types growing. This is seeds, I sowed from Livingstons seeds ,called picotee blue and this is no picotee blue bloom.Maybe the other one growing with the lighter green color leaf is the so called picotee blue?I will post if any picotee blue mg bloom.
Thanks!

Skimper,
I've been a little confused about this also, alot of my flowers that the packages say "Picotee", what I think they mean is that they have a "Picotee edge" not necessarily the Platycodon bell shape. I'm getting way to many of the just "Picotee edges" so maybe I have the whole thing confused.

I was expecting the Platycodon bell shape or I also think it is called Jishi? someone help??? And also if anyone can describe the leaves to us, it would help explain the differences. Thank you.

Gourd,
You are correct.
The MG in question from Livingstons Seed Packet is labeled as 'Double Blue Picotee', but the correct name is:
Murasaki Jishi Japanese Morning Glory

The other Baby Blue MGs with White Picotee Edge is what the grower mixed in by misake in Livingstons Seed Packs.
When it was called to Livingston's attention, they did contact their grower and they admitted they were growing this Baby Blue MG, but didn't know the name.

This is the photo that is on the Livingston Seed Pack
