I would love to see how some of you work with your entranceway. Since we've repainted the house, I have an all-new palette going for the front summer flowers at the doorway, but it's still a work-in-progress. If you have any pictures of your cottage entranceway to share, please do so! I like looking!
Here's ours -- though the house remains, the containers out front will be changing -- they're currently too "cold" and somewhat misplanted -- I hope the next picture won't be tilted, either!

Making an Entrance (containers &tc. in doorways)
I really like the shade of green you picked - a welcoming cool green. Are you going to go with larger.taller planters?
Catherine
Thank you for your encouragement! The green was a very big change. Quite shocking after the grey for all these years, but neighbors and passersby say they like it for its coolness and that the house looks "friendlier".
So ... yay green. :-)
I think eventually, yes, we'll go with bigger planters, though I am Really Picky (probably Really Too Picky) about finding the right ones. And we have an issue of opportunity theft here, so I have to be careful to find Right Ones that won't break the bank if they are stolen. As a point of transition while looking for something wonderful, I painted the (reproduction) ca. 1924 planters the pale yellow of the trim and replanted them, adding a couple of Geoff Wolff flowerpots on one side -- I'm partial to asymmetry for entryways.
Anyway, though this shot barely shows it, the planters contain coleus, hibiscus, mint, impatiens, pursulane, million bells, and varigated sweet potato vine. I look forward to the plants filling out in order to give the planters a more established, lush look. Right now they look pretty young. :-)
I particularly like the green of the door. Perfect choice to go with the paler green of the walls.
Just a thought to go with your new paint colors, which are great, BTW...! It's hard to tell from the picture, but, would you (or could you, ) consider putting two posts under that "gable" over the entry? ( Maybe it doesn't project out over the porch ?????) Then you could grow something on them....
