Look what I got in the mail!

Ah, we meet again, Karen. lol.

I purchased four cuttings from QVC this spring and, so far my asparagus plants, as my hubby calls them have one opened leaf each on two plants. I didn't know about the plastic pots. Why black and why plastic?? Now I am starting to wonder how to take care of them when they have to come back inside. Any advice? I heard they go dormant.

Yes, deerchaser... they will go dormant this winter. I advise you to PLEASE read all the stickies offered on the plumeria forum, and to read over the most recent threads that are listed. There are alot of very knowledgeable people here, and they will answer any questions you may have. I too, am a newbie to plumeria... this is my first year also. I lost my first two cuttings right off the bat. The next two I ordered from eBay have done quite well, and I've had my first bloom recently. You can see the end result of this thread here... http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/757770/

The black pots are recommended because of the large drain holes they offer, and because the black color keeps the roots warm. Plumies demand a well-drained soil mix. I too, am a bit concerned about wintering them over, because of all I've read... but I know that there are wonderful people here whose advice I trust, and they won't steer me wrong. Mine will have to come in to my apartment, so my biggest challenge will be knowing when to water... how much and how often.

LOL about hubby calling them asparagus. Mine calls them "those hawaiian plants"...

Thanks, Karen. I will check out the info tonight. There are some wonderful people in this website. I feel fortunate to find this site.

My husband and I just got back from a wonderful day of plant shopping. First we visited Logee's, which is only 25 miles from me. What a wonderful place! I have never seen anything like it... a maze of greenhouses containing the most exotic and exciting plants that I have ever seen! I purchased a few treasures for my new terrarium project. We also visited New England Bonsai Gardens for the first time. We will be signing up for classes in the fall. Lots to learn.

Have a wonderful night.
Donna
