As mentioned, my first failure with a plumeria cutting caused me to go to eBay and purchase a rooted cutting... and I also bought a larger cutting (than my DSP) to try again.
My purchases came in the mail yesterday! Yay! I was able to get the rooted cutting potted up right away, but then I ran out of daylight, so I didn't pot up the cutting until this evening.
Here is my rooted cutting 'White Clouds'...
Look what I got in the mail!
Oops! The potted up 'Keilani' was out of focus, and all the photos are too bright, but I think it gives you a pretty good idea of what I got.
Thanks!
Yes, that looks like an inflo. You should have flowers befire too long.

Those look fabulous! That's either and inflo, or it's branching. (Some knowledgable people have taught me this useful fact!)
Put them in a really hot and sunny spot to get them going right away. I usually add some root tone or Miracle grow has a liquid product to help with rooting and transplanting. Its called Quick Start, you just water the plants with a mixture at potting and again a week later. I would definately recommend it. I haven't lost but one cutting in the last 5 years. ( I do always use black pots to start out though, you should consider finding some- I just reuse old ones from nursery purchases but they can be bought)
GOOD LUCK and let us see the blooms when they come out.
Ahhh Karen - LOOK at your babies!!!! Yipeeee!!!! I'm so excited for you!!! Can't wait to see your blooms when the inflo does its thing!! Let me see what my black nursery pot inventory looks like...LOL. I'll be needed a few of them but might have a couple left...I'll let you know. We could always go in on an order together at some point...just a thought.
Here is a link Clare had given me: http://mortonproducts.com/page.cfm/1480
She'd also suggested checking with local nurseries (not sure who you have down there but we've got Meadows Farm a few min's from my house).

Thanks Chantell
Karen, your plumies look great! Good job! I haven't heard of 'Keilani' before. I have one called 'Kaleinani' that is supposed to be a nice yellow/orange, but I know some of those Hawaiian names can be similar. Please post pics when you get blooms and congrats on that inflo!
I don't know if the black floral pots at your local supermarket would be big enough for plumerias, but you can probably get them free. The ones I have look to be about 4-5 gal and 7-8 gal. I am referring to the pots they use for the fresh cut flowers. They are very sturdy pots with a nice rolled edge on the top. They don't have holes in them, of course, but holes can be easily drilled, as many as you want. The pot wall is thicker then the standard nursery pots.
The local Publix Market here gets them every week, and after the flowers are sold, they throw the pots away. "Down the chute" they call it. So, you might ask and see if your local market does the same and will save them for you. Publix has a policy that anything that can be recycled, should be. I have gotten many this way.
Just a thought.
Karen
glendalekid... thank you for the advice. Yes, I am aware that I need to put them in black pots, but due to a number of circumstances, I simply have not been able to do so. Ihope that if I can obtain some before the end of summer, that I can gently transfer them to the black pots before bringing them inside.
Thanks Clare. When I ordered these (from eBay), I could not find any info on either named variety, but I thought they were very pretty.

Karen, those aren't names that I recognize, and chances are good that the seller just made up the name to sell the unknown seedling hybrid, but they look like they will be lovely flowers.
Karen - GREAT job...so excited for you!!! Knew you could do it!!
Thanks Clare! Thanks Chantell (haven't given up on that DSP either... looks exactly the same) Yeah, I thought it might be something like that, as far as the names go... but yes, they look like they will be very pretty, if they bloom true to the photos.
I will definitely post photos... and you'll probably be able to see me beaming from way over there! LOL!
Karen
Chantell... do you have any of yours blooming? I would love to see them!
Ah Karen...would be nice but none yet...don't even have inflos that I'm aware of. Will be repotting tonight...so I will check them over. Sure this horrible hot weather will encourage something out of all of them. :)
I know what you mean! The plumies, desert roses, and crown of thorns are the ONLY plants that are happy in the full sun part of my balcony right now! Everyone else is saying, "Please set me in the shade!!!" LOL!
LOL - yes I keep hearing "thank you" from the cacti and plumies ... the others are saying.....I know you watered us yesterday BUT...
I'm picking up some one gallon black nursery pots this afternoon (finally!), on my way home from work. Now... (Clare, where are you?) what is the best way for me to take the plumies out of the pots they are in and transfer them?
Thanks in advance...
Karen
LOL, Karen, I'm here when I can be, which is a lot less often these days, I'm afraid. I found about an hour this morning. Which pots are your transferring from? Really, I wouldn't bother transferring them. As long as drainage is good in that other plastic pot, it should be fine. You can just use the black plastic one-gallons next time that you root cuttings. The biggest benefit to the one-gallon black plastic pots is the big drainage holes. As long as your pots have drainage holes about the same size and same number, the plumies should be fine. If you transfer them now, you'll risk breaking the new fragile roots.
Karen - did you find the nursery pots locally? If so...please let me know where...I've run out of them between the EE's and the Plumies.
Chantell... I called Roxbury Mills in downtwon F'burg, and they had a few one gallons, and more five gallons. She's charging me 60 cents a piece for the one gallons... I think I overheard her talking to the other girl, and saying $1 for the five gallon.
Thanks Clare. The two I got from TX look so good right now... maybe I will leave them alone. Yes they've got big drainage holes... they just aren't black... they were whatever I had left over. LOL!
The DSP cutting I got from Chantell is still in the clay pot. The cutting looks exactly as it did the day I potted it up (in late May???)... still has that shriveled look, but green... nothing popping out of the tip. I tugged on it a few nights ago, and it held fast. I think I will take it up and (gently) take a look at it, then transfer it to one of the black pots.
And alas... I am so bad! I have ordered a rooted cutting from Thailand, so I will have a pot for it when it comes in. **Blushing, and kicking the dirt with my toe...** I know, I know!!! I shouldn't have! But... but... it was so pretty in the photo!
Thanks ladies!!!
Karen
Where' the pic of this one you're ordering? Hmm??? :) Please let me know if the place had any extras of the nursery pots....not sure where they are but could head down this w/e maybe.
You guys might want to go to a local nursery and see if they will sell you used ones for cheaper than that price quoted to you. They should practically give them away to you unless they re-use them themselves. Some people do that here as well.
Well, I thought that's what I was asking for... was just good ol' used ones. But the ones they had waiting for me when I got there were brand new. That nursery is only three blocks from work and on my way home, so it was worth it to me.
I'll post the photo of my "find" later Chantell! LOL! (Check you Dmail!)
gallon containers are sold by the 100 and I pay 13 cents for new ones. Point that out to them next time you are charged 60 cents for a used one! That is really highway robbery...
tigerlily - where do you order your's from and do have to order in bulk i.e. 100? Just wondering if the s/h end up running the total up esp. if you only need a few. Just thinkin' out loud.
I get mine from BWI-but I am not sure if they sell retail. I usually get 1000 at a time. They are just a long stack with a piece of string running running thru the holes holding the stack together.
If I were you, I would look in the yellow pages for landscapers and call a few to see if they would let you have some. They always have a nice selection of different size pots that they usually end up throwing away. Lots of 1,3,5 and larger sizes. Offer to pay them $5 or so and get alot of them-even bigger than 15 if you want. They don't use them after they plant the plants that were in them. Some of them bring them back to the nurseries (another place you could call) for some credit-but you taking a few pots is no big deal.
Ah Karen...good for you!!!!
Looking GREAT! I can't wait to see what the flowers look like.
Right on, Karen! I'm excited for you! Please post when your buds open. I would guess about two weeks, depending upon the heat in your area.
Yay!!! I'll be watchin' and waitin' with the camera!!
