I feel sure this is the correct one, but felt it best to check in case I was missing something.
Eristalis pertinax seems to differ from Eristalis tenax by the hair colour of the thorax, on mine it is more reddish, and the colour of the pattern on the abdomen which on E. tenax looks brighter and more orange.

The wing definitely has the Eristalis 'venal loop'. The leg colour on E. pertinax also look to match mine more closely.

There is also E. interruptus on the above site which has a black spot on the edge of the wing, on some of my pics I can see a blackish line at the edge which it should have but not a dot. The abdomen pattern also looks different.
It was high up so the shot was pot luck, not central!
