How to make your MG's unappetizing to deer? Soap???

My 3 part trellis that held 3 morning glories is half eaten this morning. The top half of each MG which were about 6 ft. tall disappeared last night....a nasty sight to behold this AM. I am assuming it must be deer; as the lower portion is still there. Any suggestions to try? I read once where Irish Spring soap works, how do you use it?

Tammylp - hang small bars of soap around your plants. Drill a hole in the middle and hang them with s-hooks . . . if you put a few around your plants at 4-5' - the deer don't like the soap smell.
