Garden Glories Nursery in Vista

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

I"ve just had a delightful morning at Garden Glories Nursery in Vista! I wouldn't have known about this had I not gone to S.D. Hort Society's recent presentation by Annie Hayes. Garden Glories is owned by Liz Youngflesh, a master gardener and very knowledgeable and she's now carrying plants from Annie's Annuals. She has LOTS of REALLY GOOD stuff. I ordered a few things from Annie last week and then realized there were more that I wanted....duh! Called Liz and fortunately she had the ones I was looking for. She's open by appointment..ph # is 858 449-5342. She will be speaking at the Fallbrook Garden Club Meeting in September and I believe a tour of her nursery is scheduled also. She specializes in alstroemeria and has a great variety of desirable plants. No, it's not an ad and no,she doesn't know I'm plugging her nursery. It just today became one of my favorite nurseries and it's possible that others have not heard of it either.
edited to correct the ph number...it's now the right number..449 instead of 440...

Sherry, the web site is http://www.gardengloriesnursery.com/ - you accidentally posted the e-mail address.

I'll have to keep this one in mind, especially if there's something at Annie's that I want.

oops, sorry, thanks for catching that K. I'd been e-mailing back and forth to her and apparently wasn't thinking. I think she (Liz) waits until she's doing a large order from Annie due to shipping costs, so if there's anything in particular someone wants she can add it to her order. I ordered 4 plants from Annie's and the shipping charge was $13, so it may be more cost effective to get plants through Liz. I didn't compare prices, but on the nicotiana mutabilis that I got from Annie, it was in a 4" pot, a couple of inches tall, (I'm sure it would be hard to ship anything larger which is the problem with ordering instead of buying local), and the ones that I got from Liz are in 1 gal pot size and already 2 ft tall.

While I was at Garden Glories..it was interesting to also meet Nan Sturman (?). I hope I'm spelling the last name correctly. She's a landscaper among many other things and has a book coming out this fall. It's the 2nd volume apparently of the California garden guide book done by the Asakawas, so I'm looking forward to taking a look at that also. It's always wonderful to meet other gardeners, you just know they must be good people.

Thanks for the tip on Garden Glories Nursery. Since I am somewhat new to gardening, I'm still trying to hit all the local nursery's.

I'm curious on anyone's take on books by the Asakawas.

It's probably just me, but I thought there were mistakes or discrepancies in the one book that I read of theirs on California gardening, (which apparently was volume 1), and that surprised me. I should look at it again.
