CLOSED: Long-horned Beetle Strangalia which species?

Lincoln, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

The only one I can find similar is Strangalia maculata, the pattern at the top is very different though.

There are three species listed here, S. aurulenta, maculata, quadrifasciata.

It's not S. aurulenta

Neither is it S. quadrifasciata.

I found a site on the web search with S maculata which looks like mine, with no other info, I wonder if it's a sex difference? The top yelllow pattern is joined on this, mine is separate.

I searched for Rutpela maculata, it's other name, and found a pic from English Nature, like mine with the exception that the yellow patches on the top of wings don't join on my beetle.

As there seems to be some variation in pattern, and nothing else to match, should we call it Strangalia maculata?

Here is another picture under the name Rutpela maculata which looks a very close match to yours: http://www.bioimages.org.uk/html/P1/P1255.php

Thanks Ken, it has to be that.

Should I add it as Strangalia or Rutpela> as the name seems to have changed one way or the other.

I get the impression that Rutpela maculata is the current name. It certainly gives more hits on the net search.
I will note the synonym for inclusion when we eventually get the facility to store them,

Ken
