Yuck! I can't blame you Chris! Looks like a sci-fi movie.

On a quick glance, chris - they look like the nymphs of one of the Assasin bugs!

Those are nymphs of the leaf-footed bug. Two dots on the back, shape, and no neck- just gave a program on these yesterday and they are very fresh in my mind. Also the fact that there are a lot of them. The only time assassin bugs are "in congregation" is when they have just hatched. Then they start eating each other... Another way to tell is to look and see what they are eating. If they have their straw-like mouthparts stuck in the plant, they are pests. And that straw-like mouth part is shorter on assassins, longer on pests.
If they were assassins I would have advised you not to kill them. They are considered beneficial. Leaf-footed bugs are pests, and pests are what you have.....

Thanks, fly.

Ewwww, they cannabolize each other! Gross!

Thanks CJ, it's harder to id the leaf footed too when their legs are normal sized.

Wanted to say thanks for the ID for the nymphs of the leaf-footed bug. Glad to know there are so many knowledgeable people on this site.
