Hibisicus cuttings

Bradenton, FL(Zone 9a)

About how long should it take for cuttings from a hibiscus to grow roots? I used "root tone" on them when planting.

I would leave them alone for a month and then check to see if there are any roots.

It takes a long ... long time. I have a table it the back yard I use for Hibiscus cuttings. Leave them alone for several months before checking for roots.

Which kind of hibiscus are we talking about? The hard, woody Rose of Sharon thing, or the softer, die-back, H. moscheutos kind?

They are kind of woody, but the kind that is still sort of green. They are from a hybrid. I'm not sure of the name.

I did a verigated one that had red blooms I stole a pice from Micky D's when they made me wait to long in the drive thru and it was in arms reach. any way it took 6 weeks to root were I could transplant

I got hibiscus seed in trade and they sprouted easily. They were only labeled 7' tall red hibiscus. They haven't bloomed yet and I'm planning on putting them in the greenhouse this winter because I don't know if they are winter hardy. I had several and topped some for better branching...they are growing straight up...I believe the 7' is correct and not an exageration. When I topped them, I put the pieces in water and a sunny south window...they rooted quickly in water and are now in pots...now I have even more! Wish I knew what kind they are...easy from seed and cuttings.

Irish, the varigated one is called Snow Queen. Lantana, if it's the standard red ones, I've seen them close to ten feet tall. Were the cuttings you used all green. I have some that were all green and some that were from a little lower on the plant, kind of greenish brown. One of the brownish ones had no leaves on it, but now 2 or three weeks later has several small leaves sprouting. I just wanted to hear how long other people waited before trying to replant or ship new cuttings. Thanks for the info.

They were green cuttings...the tops of the plants as they were growing.
