CLOSED: Moth ID, please?

NE Medina Co., TX(Zone 8a)

I found this moth in my bedroom one day. So interesting! I got it in the jar so I could get it outside safely. But first, I took this picture so maybe I could find out what it is.

It's one of the Underwing Moths, genus Catocala. Maybe Catocala ilia?

It loosk to me like the Shadowy Barrens Underwing (Catocala umbrosa): http://www.silkmoths.bizland.com/catumbrosa.htm

Well, it could be either one. I'd have to find another of those to tell the difference. Thanks so much!

Linda,
on further consideration and comparison with the two species, I lean towards it being Catocala ilia as suggested by claypa. This one is also a much commoner and more widespread species.
We have a page for the Ilia Underwing here: http://davesgarden.com/bf/go/1070/

Thank you. Then I'll go with that one!

They look very similar, but it is one of those for sure. It was very bright orange and the underneath side was very colorful also. Very pretty for a moth, but you wouldnt know it with the wings closed.
The pool made it very easy to get a decent photo.

Thanks for the ID,
chris

I must have linked to this page thinking I was posting on mine. Sorry Linda.
