CLOSED: should I smoosh him or keep him?

Cincinnati, OH(Zone 6a)

I seen him eating a bee / wasp! So I'm afraid of him.
Then he invited his girlfriend to stay awhile!

Can anyone ID this and tell me if he is good or bad guy?

I will upload a few photos.

Thanks!

Interesting shots, nice series too.
I don't know what it is but would be interested to find out.
Generally, predators are good bugs. They are part of the balance.

Yeah, I thought it to be strange to have a bee or wasp having a vampire attack it, not sure what the bee is either. (I have some shots of them as well)

after the shot with him with the bee/wasp, I went back out about an hour later and that is when he was with the girlfriend. The dead bee/wasp was on a leaf. The bee/wasp mate...family member or whatever, was going nuts over the dead bee.

I'm interested to find out what this bug is. And the bee (I'll post a new thread for it)
Thanks,

Jen, you can always try www.BugGuide.net/ they are great. You can search pics or post an ID request with your pics. They have helped me many times.

I think it's a Bee Assassin - Apiomerus spp.

I agree that your bug is the Bee Assassin (Apiomerus crassipes).

We have a page for it in BugFiles, but no images so far: http://davesgarden.com/bf/go/4014/

Would you please add your images to this page,

There is no good or bad in nature. If you understand it you can work with it.
The human way is of course the shortest and easiest way, but in the longrun the worst way.

I thought at first it was an assassin bug, but I've seen plenty of photos of that bug. But this guy was different than all the photos I seen. The Red really threw me off.

Thank you very much! I'll leave him alone. If they start multiplying then I'll do something about it.

I'll add it to the bug files. Thanks for all your help!
