There are dozens of these all over my potted plants. What are they and are they harmful? I'm in Tucson, AZ

Yes, they are sucking the juice from your plants. See that needle like mouth part that is stuck into whatever that is? It's like a tiny hollow needle and it extracts sap from the plant... Pick them off and give them the two brick treatment. No bricks? Then stomp on them or put them into a bucket of soapy water.
You can always tell a pest insect from a beneficial insect by observing what it is eating....and sometimes pest insects just don't do enough damage to justify doing anything. But if you have dozens on your plants, it is probably time to do something.
