I bought 3 lilies as "African Queen" Trumpets online and one came up as shown in large pix the other 2 grew like the insert. Did I get a different varity or is a virus at work? Even the one that has a bud is only 18" so tall. Is this par for first year or is it sick? Any help or info welcome.
Nope, your lilies are fine.
In my experience, trumpets have been pretty short the first year and around 4' the second year. The inset pic looks like it is fasciated ~ nothing unhealthy, just an abnormally abundant growth of foliage and blooms. It'll be normal looking next year.
